At this point, he doesn't have much of a political career left, he was very over hyped and then lost, which generally leads to obscurity. He's likely assuming that he can win in New Hampshire, because it's far less Democratic than Massachusetts, so I doubt it's a smokescreen for anything else.

He really is as politically insane as Liz Cheney, isn't he? She would have had a better chance trying in Texas, but instead pretends like she can actually beat Enzi while Stockman thinks he can beat Cornyn.

If Brown really wants a Congress seat in New Hampshire so bad, then he's best off trying his luck against Rep. Shea-Porter in a pretty even district and just get through the primary. He would stand little chances against her to, but he's better off there than competing against Senator Shaheen statewide.

Al Baldasaro, one of the craziest members of the New Hampshire House, is exploring a run for Senate.

His greatest hits include applauding the booing of a gay soldier for coming out and asking about DADT, comparing gay adoption to human trafficking, calling the banning of lead sinkers/jigs to protect our loon population a UN plot, and being part of the infamous House Birther Caucus, who collectively lost their sh**t when the courts ruled that Obama was, indeed, a US citizen.

It's like f***ing Christmas morning.

Also worth noting: Brown is receiving opposition from his right about carpetbagging, especially about guns.

Scott Brown writes a fundraising email for the NH GOP attacking Shaheen.

The Senate Majority PAC also has an ad against him.

Already posted this in the megathread, but whatever. Scott Brown appearing at a campaign kickoff. In Massachusetts. For MA-9 candidate John Chapman.

If he's looking to prove he's a New Hampshirite, he's doing a horrible job.

At this point, he doesn't have much of a political career left, he was very over hyped and then lost, which generally leads to obscurity.

But I mean, is that fair? He didn't have much of a political career to begin with, and while he may have been "overhyped" (somewhat justifiably IMO), he was deeply constrained in what he could do by the need to be reelected in MA in a Presidential general election year. That's not news to anyone.

Regarding being attacked from the right, that's only to be expected given that he had to buck the party line in his 3 years of votes due to being from MA. He needs to find some way to explain to them, in a way that doesn't come off as John Kerry-esque, that Senator Scott Brown (R-NH) need not be the same as Senator Scott Brown (R-MA).

NB1: I know that  some of those to the right are Tea Party hardliners. They will likely be unconvinceable in the primary. But I doubt they'd sit home in the general election.

NB2: I don't think he's a favorite to win at this point or anything, but the commentary in this thread seems overly bearish re: his prospects.

Also would be good to put up recent polling info in here, right?

Brown vs. Shaheen since December:

ARG - 12/15: D+10
PPP - 1/11: TIE
Purple Strategies - 1/22: D+3
WMUR/UNH - 1/24: D+10

Not terrible for a carpetbagger imo. Tho yes, I acknowledge that polling for elections 10 months out, especially when primaries haven't been held, is almost entirely silly and pointless. Still, I wouldn't peg Brown at anywhere near Liz Cheney levels of delusion quite so soon.

He's still flirting and says family issues mean he'll take his time to decide.

And the other thing is that ARG/WMUR are junk. Brown certainly isn't Liz Cheney, but I think he's at his ceiling. Lowered conservative turnout/a libertarian candidate siphoning votes will carry Shaheen over the hump. Considering I know a few NH conservatives, they aren't thrilled with Brown's stance on guns. I can easily see conservatives sitting this election out or just voting third party if he somehow runs. But do I think he will?

Let's just say I think that he's using the Senate as a decoy to keep his name in the limelight for 2016. Looks like he's going all-in on NH.

If he wants to run, why does he wait? I tend to believe he wants to have publicity for his 2016 presidential campaign. Although I would love to see this fake moderate losing a second time Grin

Filing deadline's not till June, and his main rival is a carpetbagger himself.

I hope he runs, it'd be satisfying to see him lose two elections in the span of only two years.

He would have had a better shot staying in Massachusetts and running for Governor.  As Democratic as Massachusetts is, the voters of Massachusetts seem to have no problem electing a Republican Governor.  Remember, prior to 2007, Massachusetts had 16 straight years of Republican governors.

I think Brown isn't going to confirm he's not running until the filing deadline. Doing so now would make people stop talking about him, and he doesn't want that.
