Probably not.

Democrats don't want an Urban nanny-stater.

Republicans don't want a rich old white guy.

The Republicans haven't nominated a non-rich, non-old, non-white guy in like, ever. Bloomy would be perfect for them.

Sarah Palin wasn't any of those (might be rich now after her book and speaking tours, but not in 2008.) Paul Ryan wasn't old by political standards or particularly affluent either.

Of course demographics are not a problem for Bloomberg amongst the Republicans. His gun record and nanny statism are. This is just classic Walter myopia, there's plenty of reasons why Bloomberg has a snowball's chance in hell of being touched by either party.

We all know the Republicans would prefer this guy running the House to Boehner:

Besides, they just had a Mormon as their actual Presidential candidate. It wouldn't be a significant factor at all, especially compared to his views on guns.

How did this thread get to a second page of replies?  Do people really have nothing better to do than to respond to an absurdly trollish question?  If so, then I hope Bushie reopens the Update thread soon, as that was a more productive waste of time.

The soft drink douche isn't a good choice for political office in general.

But he is trying to get New Yorkers to eat healthier, and that is commendable.

No, he's trying to force New Yorkers to eat healthier.

Mr. Bloomberg could use his (presumed) executive talent and billions in personal wealth to inform and educate the public on nutrition. Such an effort could lead to improved diet and food quality across the U.S. and the world. Instead he's acted like some sort of medieval prelate and  pursued an endless series of petty nanny-state regulations, which I don't find commendable at all.

There's little more gut-wrenching than pimpled-faced oddballs screaming nanny state indiscriminately.

He limited how much soft drink you can buy in one go in cinemas and restaurants, hardly conducive of a goose-stepping, fascist overlord.

Pimple-faced oddballs?

Restricting people's soda is a nanny state measure. Why one God's green Earth would anyone want to do that? This is not a dictatorship.

Oddly enough, that's probably the sneering attitude that Bloomberg has for his constituency as well!

As insufferable as Bloomberg and his brand of politics are, surely people realize how ridiculous it is to compare soda cup restrictions to fascism (even jokingly).

Yes, it's silly to call Bloomberg's attempts at various petty public health rules, "fascism". (Otoh, I think it's quite fair to call them "nanny statism".) But it's also hard to see them as any sincere effort to truly improve public health. If the man was serious, he has the resources and talent to do far more than push a seemingly endless series of minor regulatory reforms.

It seems to me that education and publicity could do more to improve health than bureaucracy, and to the best of my knowledge, Bloomberg completely ignores those avenues. Which makes him appear to be possessed of a strong "your betters know best" attitude that is repugnant to the majority of Americans.

All off which add up to make him a terrible choice for VP, to my mind.

Yeah, I thought the law was stupid because it's pointless and ineffective, not because it's some radical communistic oversight of the fast food industry.
