Please tell your senators you don't want to roll back our drug laws that have kept users out of jail!

Here's to hoping those proposals don't have the votes.

If they're using illegal drugs, yes.  Otherwise, no.

Drug users: no.  Drug dealers: yes.  I don't know what kind of radically authoritarian, cold-hearted person would support tossing ordinary drug users behind bars.

Yeah, this is unbelievably stupid. There is no logically consistent reason whatsoever to punish someone for using drugs. As someone who opposes drug uses and thinks drugs should be generally eradicated (though I'm open to discussion with regard to the "softer" ones), it is pretty much obvious that if you hold this belief the people who use drugs are victims, not criminals.

No of course not, but I believe certain drugs should be illegal, and we should help addicts, the people we should go after are the dealers.

There is a huge Atlasian Senate debate right now about this, Antonio.

Ooops, sorry. Tongue The OP was really worded as an context-free policy question, though.

Like Scott said, users, in almost all cases, no. Dealers, in serious cases, yes.

As far as I can tell, selling for profit is illegal in the case of all hard drugs. Only Marijuana, and of course Alcohol and Tobacco, are completely legalized.

I don't support jailing users or dealers unless some other crime, an actual CRIME, is involved.

No. I generally subscribe to the idea that filling jails with non-violent offenders is a really, really terrible idea - it's not something you find a whole lot of at least in free societies.

And to the point, no. Drugs should be controlled like alcohol. You get high or whatnot and hurt someone or worse, then you get in trouble.

What on earth is the purpouse of incarcerating a drug user, who doesn't do a harm to anybody else, beside overcrowding already badly overcrowded prisons?

Given than drug addiction is a illness, that doesn't make sense.
They should be offered care, or, in worst cases be sent in rehab if they are a danger to other people.

But jail isn't the place for sick people.

God no. Addiction is an issue of mental health, not criminal justice.

I think the primary motive behind supporting re-criminalizing drug use is purely emotional.  Because it "feels good" to force your lifestyle choices on other people, rather than give them the help they really need.  None of the ten people who support treating users as criminals have provided any rationale for doing so, so I have to assume they're either a) operating on selfish desires, or b) just blindly follow state propaganda.  Either way, I'm happy to see that 2/3 of Atlasians so far have some grasp on reality.

I support mandatory rehabilitation programs for users of "harder" drugs (heroin, cocaine, etc) and legalization of "softer" drugs (marijuana, ecstasy, LSD, etc). But putting drug users in jail, the same as rapists, murderers, etc is a terrible, terrible idea.

I believe all the soft drugs are legal (I know marijuana and most hallucinogens are)
