Niall Ferguson is married to Ayaan Hirsi Ali. I'll never get tired of this amazing bit of information.

Isn't she exactly the sort of person who would say this, too?

Not really. She is pro gay rights and wanted to make gays and Islam a main theme in her planned film Submission II, about Islam and men, which was deemed too dangerous to make.

Oh, I know she is publicly pro-gay. That doesn't mean she wouldn't say this sort of thing, though. Her whole schtick is being brash, abrasive and "willing to say the hard truths", which includes controversial statements about groups she purports to support or even is a member of. I recall her saying some pretty... insulting things about African women before, and she is of course an African woman and has made womens' rights in Africa a central piece of her policy proposals.

Nostalgic memories of the Ayaan Hirsi Ali-Rita Verdonk saga over here.

This makes sense in a twisted sort of way; the things they have in common are both the worst things about them.

Nate Silver is firing shots at him now. Nate's become far more partisan and vocal since the election ended.

Which is a good thing. His 2009-2012 moderate hero phase was slightly annoying at times. Though he always does a great job with numbers, which is all that matters ultimately.

To be fair, this was when he needed to build his nonpartisan credentials as an objective number-cruncher. His role isn't one of punditry, but I welcome it. He's certainly more intelligent than just about any member of the media.
