I actually have 3 different mobile phones right now, and had 5 alltogether (2 Nokias, 3 Samsungs).

A old Nokia from the year 2001 or so, a Nokia 6120, a Samsung 5230 (sold it), a Samsung Galaxy Note (sold it because it was actually good, but turned out I preferred a smaller one) and now a Samsung Galaxy S mini.

Or: 3 smartphones and 2 dumbphones.

I retired my old flip (dumb) phone in December.  With the amount of traveling and bouncing between two houses I've done over the last 7 months, I needed to have constant connection online.  And to be honest, toting around my big laptop was becoming a pain, especially since the hinge for the monitor broke on one of the flights.

I still miss my flip phone.  Dropped it a million times and it always worked.  All things die, sadly.  Cry

Exactly the one I had for five years.  Motorola.  The boy chewed on it when he was maybe 2, stepped on it when he was 3, and dropped it in the compost heap when he was 4, but it continued working for many years.  Good phone.  One day it just quit.  Sad, too, because I had all these numbers stored on it that I couldn't get to, and it was just about the time I moved to Pennsylvania and I wanted to call people and tell them that I moved but I couldn't because I didn't have their numbers.

My new one is also a free one.  It pretty much works like the old one, except that it doesn't have the normal ring sound.  I miss having a phone ring that actually sounds like a phone ringing.  Well, I guess I could download a noise like a phone ringing, but I'm too cheap.  This new phone has only four built-in options, and the least offensive one is a baroque piece.  the first time I heard it ring was when I was in the little ante-room of my son's piano teacher's studio, and I heard it and I thought, "how nice, some little kid is playing a clavichord."  Then, later, I was in the mall and I heard that song again, and I thought, "hey, there's that song again.  Weird."  then, a few days later I was watching a movie and I heard it again and I thought, "how the hell did someone get a clavichord in here?"  Then I had an epiphany.  "D'oh!  That must be my phone ringing."  Sure enough, I had three messages.

A five-year-old Nokia, and I am perfectly content with it. I only use my mobile phone for text messages, calls and as a calendar.

I've got a sorta "dumb" phone, but I can surf on it, email and do facebook and what not, I just don't because we don't have a data plan so it's kind of expensive (and the phone sucks at it).  And by this point in time, smart phones are like trucks, you don't have to own one because everybody else seems to.  If you're out and need something a smart phone can do, ask a buddy.  That one time a year you need a truck, ask a buddy.

I suppose if you don't have friends...

Yeah, I paid $69 for the 4s just for renewing for 2 years......I had been contract free forever prior to that but who cares.
