Because Georgia's not special Tongue

So (Florida posters or not): who'll run against Scott? Will they succeed? What about the Cabinet? The Legislature? How irrelevant are the Democrats? Will Murphy survive? Garcia? Buchanan? Southerland? Will Bill Young finally retire? Discuss!

Though perhaps in this case, it's libel.

Apparently, this was the first time he was on record supporting SSM.

Murphy will probably survive. He raises more than 500k which is impressive. I appreciate him, I hope he will become a US senator in the future, or a governor!

Rick Scott is moderating his views, with his money, I suppose he will be reelected.

For Southerland, is he an extremist? His opponent seems to be relatively moderate, an "independant voice" in her campagne on internet. Is his father really popular in Florida?

True, true, but it got a Politifact article. And thanks.

Murphy is decent enough I suppose, but is certainly vulnerable to a non-West Republican - his money advantage will make it a fair fight, but he'll have to content with national (specifically NRCC) money that'll be targeting the seat hard.

Scott is moderating but is still disliked - he's a little like Corzine, and with the new contribution laws is even more vulnerable to Crist.

Southerland is a fairly standard Republican - he's a Southern Baptist from the Panhandle elected in 2010, so there's that, but he's not exactly Allen West. And everyone loves Bob Graham.

Murphy is a strong candidate, no doubt. However, Carl Domino (a very wealthy former State Representative who is also fairly charismatic and straight to the point-I once had lunch with him), and Adam Hasner (I worked on his 2012 campaign for nine months) are strong contenders. I have less hope for Gayle Harrell, the guy from Connecticut, or Ellen Andel, who is a Vice Mayor of a small, wealthy community.

I am 99% convinced that I will be working on the campaign against Murphy. I like Murphy, especially compared to that awful unmentionable Mayor turned Congresswoman from West Palm, but his seat is valuable next time around.

I really hope Hasner runs for many obvious reasons. He is the preferred candidate of the NRCC, which makes him by far the most electable candidate. He has never lost an election until last year, and was raised in the southern part of the district, so he is not necessarily carpet bagging (though it is far from his main political base, centered around the Delray Beach-Boca area) and is a strong fundraiser. The man is a natural politician, and I mean that in a good way for once. I expect an announcement from him soon.

The big thing with West was that he declared he'd be open to being LG when Scott said he wouldn't be a bad choice when directly asked about it and then there was a big outpouring of base support for him. There was never any real move for West from the top.

Felon disenfranchisement didn't begin under Scott and won't end under his successor. It's a very popular policy.

Felon disenfranchisement didn't begin under Scott and won't end under his successor. It's a very popular policy.

Obviously Rick Scott didn't start it (nobody said he did) but he reversed the automatic restoration process started under Crist. And what a drop too, going from 150,000 restorations under Crist to, based on current projections, let's say 800 under Scott. That's a drop of over 99%.

Felony disenfranchisement probably won't be ended until Congress or the courts overturn it, until then it's just going to be states moving individually towards automatic restorations and the few states with gubernatorial control over the process like Iowa and Florida will unfortunately move back and forth between policies with different Governors. Even if it's not ended at once, there's a big difference between an average of tens of thousands of restorations a year versus an average of one or two hundred restorations a year.

For popularity, I really doubt it's going to be popular to the point that there's going to be major opposition to restoring the voting rights to former/ex-felons who aren't even in prison anymore (a category that represents 85% of Florida's felony disenfranchisements). National polls show 52-80% support for restoring voting rights in that situation depending on the specific type of felony:

I'd be surprised if the Florida numbers differ that much.

I like him, but he is viewed in these parts as a has-been. He has lost four out of seven races, and has become a perenial candidate. Despite his money, I can't see him winning the primary.

Good lord, they're relying on Corrine Brown to be their subtle negotiator? I knew the Florida Democrats are in a pretty bad state but I didn't know they were doing THAT poorly.
