Because Georgia's not special Tongue

So (Florida posters or not): who'll run against Scott? Will they succeed? What about the Cabinet? The Legislature? How irrelevant are the Democrats? Will Murphy survive? Garcia? Buchanan? Southerland? Will Bill Young finally retire? Discuss!

Charlie did flip, but so has most of America.

BTW I like your Kriseman sticker on your signature.

True, true, but it got a Politifact article. And thanks.

Murphy will probably survive. He raises more than 500k which is impressive. I appreciate him, I hope he will become a US senator in the future, or a governor!

Rick Scott is moderating his views, with his money, I suppose he will be reelected.

For Southerland, is he an extremist? His opponent seems to be relatively moderate, an "independant voice" in her campagne on internet. Is his father really popular in Florida?

Murphy is decent enough I suppose, but is certainly vulnerable to a non-West Republican - his money advantage will make it a fair fight, but he'll have to content with national (specifically NRCC) money that'll be targeting the seat hard.

Scott is moderating but is still disliked - he's a little like Corzine, and with the new contribution laws is even more vulnerable to Crist.

Southerland is a fairly standard Republican - he's a Southern Baptist from the Panhandle elected in 2010, so there's that, but he's not exactly Allen West. And everyone loves Bob Graham.

This is the state of the Dem state party in one of the most pivotal states in the nation, and in less important states things are a lot worse..

Actually no. During this century, the Florida Democratic Party has been the least successful at winning statewide races (statewide is state-level stuff, not Senate) of any Democratic Party east of the Mississippi.

He's running. I'd expect him to announce his candidacy shortly. Once the Sink news has died down so it doesn't look like it's immediately in response to this, but yeah, he'll run.

Did Crist even govern during his time as Governor?

He vetoed the abortion bill and the 'education' bill, introduced new environmental targets, the deal with US Sugar, and signed the paper ballots law, among others.

Any thoughts on Crist Lt. Gov. picks? I could see Buddy Dyer, Pam Iorio, Bob Buckhorn, or either member of the 2010 ticket. If it wouldn't irk the Dems too much, I could see Paula Dockery or Mike Fasano too.

I saw this a few weeks ago, but was unsure where to post it and forgot about it. I am stoked for his potential campaign, and am eagerly awaiting his announcement.

For what it's worth, I'd take having Justice and Graham in Congress if it means losing Murphy and Garcia.

Well, the Flo democrats seem to become better with their recruits Tongue.

I don't see how you could infer that from any recent events.

A solid recruiting job in Pasco (Murphy) and in St. Pete (Kriseman), and assuming good recruits in Pinellas (hopefully Justice, probably Sink) and for gov (Crist).

Murphy managed to win a seat in the State House in an off year special election with the backing of the popular former occupant of that seat. Doesn't say much about the state party. FL-13 is going to be a tight race no matter how strong a candidate the Democrats nominate, and I'd never put it past the FL Dems to lose a winnable race. I'll stick by my statement on Crist, he isn't really a Dem recruit,  they're more of a Crist recruit. Kriseman I don't really know the details of, so I don't know if the Dems are being especially competent there.

They did manage to find a businesswoman with a long record of community involvement who was able to win over independents and moderate Rs (including Fasano) despite a money disadvantage  - and they found a competitive, winnable race and didn't throw it away. Schale has more. FL-13 could be tight, but there's no guarantee the Rs nominate a quality candidate either, especially with Sink leading by (IIRC) 15 over Baker. Crist, fair enough. Kriseman Dems have helped big-time with fundraising (including a Tant-led one in Tally), polling, and campaign staff.

Ehrlich has lost the support of Emily's List. Sink has raised almost 38K today via ActBlue.

If Sink wants to be in Congress so badly she should go challenge Dennis Ross or something.

Just heard (from SJoyce) that Rick Kriseman has been elected Mayor of St. Pete.

By a dominating 12-point margin over the GOP incumbent, no less. Dems sweep City Council races as well, with the closest being 10 points. Good sign for FL-13 and for Charlie.

Also: Crist has raised half a million so far.

Acc'd to the Times, Scott has a Lt. Gov. shortlist of 4, including an appointed superintendent of schools and a county commissioner.

Carlos Lopez-Cantera will be tapped tomorrow by Governor Scott to be the next Lt. Governor of Florida.

He's choosing a property appraiser to be a Lieutenant Governor?

He's choosing a Hispanic and former State Rep. with a strong base in South Florida to be a Lieutenant Governor.
