In our hypothetical 1968 election, Johnson actually decides to run for another term despite early oppposition from Minnesota Senator Eugene McCarthy in the New Hampshire primary.  The Johnson-Humphrey ticket barely wins re-nomination over Robert Kennedy's bid.  Richard Nixon wins the Republican nomination and chooses Spiro Agnew as his running mate.  There's also American Independent George Wallace and running mate LeMay of Ohio running on a segregationist platform.

Johnson/Humphrey - Continued involvement in Vietnam, increased Great Society legislation pertaining to civil rights and the War on Poverty

Nixon/Agnew - "Secret plan" to end the war in Vietnam, centrist views on social and economic reform

Wallace/LeMay - Continued involvement in Vietnam, reduction of Great Society legislation, State's Rights instead of Civil Rights

Who would you vote for?

I'd vote for Nixon at the time. With hindsight, maybe Johnson.
