Sixty-eight years ago today, the official Nazi surrender ceremony took place in Berlin, ending the Second World War in Europe with a decisive victory for the Allied forces.

How are you celebrating?

Shouldn't this be a more somber moment for you, Vosem? Wink

Oh, no. On top of it being Victory Day, it's also my younger brother's birthday; there's cake in the fridge and we went ahead and got some Eastern European food from Parma a few days ago.

On a serious note, my family maintains June 22 as a date of mourning.

With quiet contemplation, music from military bands, and some indulgence in feelings of unreserved awe, warmth, and fondness for peoples all around the world - especially those in the USSR and USA who sacrificed tremendously to vanquish the Axis forces in Europe.

I read an article about the accidental bombings of Switzerland during the Second World War, which led to several dozen casualties and caused the US government to pay roughly $20 million in restitution.

Apart from that, I also watched parts of the Russian victory celebrations that took place yesterday.
