Without reading the link, what is Rand's position on drugs?  The bit you extracted seems to suggest that Rand was working very hard to say absolutely nothing of substance about what his public policy would actually be.

I believe Paul supports hemp legalization, but going by the quote in the article, his position on marijuana appears to have shifted.  Most likely, though, he's just talking out of both sides of his mouth.

He is states rights on it. So he can basically say federally nothing will be done, but the states can do whatever they want.

"Not legalising heroin" is pretty mild as far as being "pro-War on Drugs" goes.

I'm pretty sure he said something a month or so back about how drug users shouldn't be jailed, but should instead be treated.

What is it that makes Rand Paul socially liberal enough to be a Libertarian. He's pro-life and against gay marriage. I saw the post about drug users above this post, is there anything else?

That would make him a paleocon, in the mold of Pat Buchanan.  Of course, the Pauls have always tried to espouse a kind of libertarian/paleocon fusionism.  Sort of a "nationalist libertarianism", if that makes any sense.

“I’m not advocating everyone go out and run around with no clothes on and smoke pot,” he said. “I’m not a libertarian. I’m a libertarian Republican. I’m a constitutional conservative.”

"Constitutional conservative" is an oxymoron.

But Rand Paul is just a moron.

For one thing, the Patriot Act. Another thing: Paul's filibuster was a fail.

Rand does believe in ending the war on drugs but thinks decriminalization should be left up to the states.

Well, Rand Paul is to the right of Washington and Colorado voters on marijuana legalization. Not much of a libertarian there.

Voted against the PATRIOT act, his filibuster seemed to work out pretty well.

For the Patriot Act, I was talking about Constitutional Conservative, not Rand Paul. And about the filibuster, he spent 13 hours talking about his anti-drone position and then abruptly switched his position.

Actually no. The Feds are intervening whenever possible right now. Paul's policy would effectively shut that down.
