I hope that extending the voting period to seven days will convince some of the people who voted against the previous proposals to vote for the amendment. By establishing a 7-day voting period we can make sure that more people have the chance to participate in the amendment ratification process, which is a way to increase turnout and involve more Mideasterners in the game.

I'd still like to see a 2/3 majority be necessary to ratify an amendment, but I'd be willing to let it go to 7 days voting.  Is that something that people are open to?

I think the main concern was the 2/3 majority, so that's doubtful. I'm fine with 3 days, with a simple majority I suppose, but since that just failed, I'm fine just maintaining the status quo (which this amendment aims to do).

Well the first Power to the People Amendment only had 13 voters, and I don't think people realized that the Abstains counted as No votes.  If we made that clear, and actually encouraged people to go vote, I'd have confidence that that would pass.  I'd be willing to throw my support behind a compromise bill that extends the vote to 7 days if the 2/3 majority is in there.

Honestly, I am almost certain that a 2/3rds clause will not get the necessary level of support in a popular vote since there is so much opposition against it. Also, I think that most of the people who abstained when we voted on it for the first time will vote "nay" when push comes to shove (myself included). Thus, we need to find a compromise that can attract broad support, and I think a ratification process which is very similar to the status quo is a proposal most people can live with.

I agree with what ZuWo said. There is no way I can support a measure that has a 2/3rds clause.

Looks like there's no further debate.  We'll take this to a final vote.  Members will vote AYE, NAY, or ABSTAIN.  This will be a 48-hour vote.

Voting is now closed.  The AYEs are 4, and the NAYs are 1.  The AYEs have it, and the bill has passed.  The amendment will now go before the people for ratification.
