Poor Ford.  I personally think that he was a pretty good president, considering the circumstances he was in.

He was certainly by far the best Republican of that era.

I have a real high opinion of the Presidency, and lots of confidence in the people elected for the job Tongue

Livable, but not desirable:
1.Ronald Reagan
2.Bill Clinton

Even less desirable, but didn't screw it up too badly:
3.George H. W. Bush
4.Jimmy Carter
5.Gerald Ford

Scum of the earth:
6.George W. Bush
7.Richard Nixon
8.Lyndon Johnson

John,

That's a good point about Carter. There may have been no more potentially destructive figure in the history of our nation.

Andrew Jackson was pretty bad too, but yeah Carter did more damage than anyone in recent years for sure.  I'm sure others would have done damage if given the chance, but thankfully we thought better of the idea of President Ted Kennedy and President George McGovern.

Hmm, it's a little different than I expect of you Speedy.  What's your criteria?

Mine's Reagan and Clinton at the top for different reasons
Reagan tried reversing the New Deal and enacted the tax cuts, Clinton didn't do much in as far as increasing the size of government or going in deficit.

The middle category really did nothing good, but didn't increase government much.  The status quo for presidents.

The bottom category enjoyed bloodlust through keeping Americans in war, and the bottom two enacted a lot of social programs at the same time.

There are actually a lot of people who aren't that anti-Reagan who are very anti-Bush.

Actually, Reagan should have been down one more rank, but still not at the bottom, because at least Reagan was TRYING to help America. He was at least modest, and I respect that.

Honestly, 3-5 could be in any order.  I really don't care.  They were all mediocre, but still better than Carter.

Given that the Senator has never run for the Presidency, that should come as no surprise.

this list will truly run the gamut from the 'lesser of the two evils' to the absolute worst -i despise just about every president we have had since Richard Nixon first took office:

1. Bill Clinton (at least prior to his passing NAFTA and Welfare 'reform')

2. Jimmy Carter (post-presidency)

3. Richard Nixon (minus Watergate and the 1971 Kent State Massacre)

4. George H. W. Bush (he was responsible enough to raise taxes in cooperation with the Democratic Congress to cut the budget deficit -which cost him dearly in 1992)

5. Gerald Ford (no opinion -his presidency was so brief)

6. Ronald Reagan (self-explanatory)

7. George W. Bush (self-explanatory)

1. Ronald Reagan (he ended an era of stagflation with tough monetary policies in fighting inflation; restored America's self-confidence; rebuilt our military; as well as helped in ending the Cold War)

2. Richard Nixon (helped to end America's involvement in the Vietnam War; opened Communist China to the outside world; and founded the Environmental Protection Agency)

3. Bill Clinton (presided over the elimination of the budget deficit, and the greatest economic boom in American history since the 1920s)

4. George H. W. Bush (same reason as I listed above in my previous post)

5. George W. Bush

6. Gerald Ford

7. Jimmy Carter
