Poor Ford.  I personally think that he was a pretty good president, considering the circumstances he was in.  I think that, had he won his own term in 76, he would be remembered as one of the better presidents of our century.

People like to make Ford's performance in the '76 election into a joke.  What they tend to forget in that he cmae back from a -30% margin in the polls to within 1% of capturing the popular vote on election day.  A feat which has never even come close to being repeated and probably never will be.
