You just have a lot to say and you respect peoples' time... so you say it quickly, making use of their time more efficient.

Really fast, and sometimes when I am aware of the tendency I consciously slow down and speak what is to me quite deliberately. People tend to respond to that better, it seems. I'm very comfortable talking to people, especially if it is actually about something, so I have to watch the tendency to digress as well.

Very extremely slowly and clearly - now.  I talked rather faster when I lived in the USA, but now this slow-and-clear talking, coupled with a rather conservative/academic look keeps me in the good graces of the Thais.  I'm acclaimed far and wide and by all classes, backgrounds, and ages as the 'easy to understand foreigner'.  Some even go so far as to say - you're the only foreigner I can easily hold a conversation with'.

I speak at a rapid clip with words that would blend together if not for strong enunciation. My voice is slightly high-pitched for a guy as tall as me, although I subconsciously make it a lot deeper when I'm paying close attention to my tone or word choice. I speak with a mild form of the typical accent heard in rural non-Appalachian North Georgia, although becomes much stronger when I use a Southern colloquialism. Occasionally my mouth will be moving faster than I'm thinking so I've taught my self to take pauses when necessary; if I don't, I'll end up babbling and veering on random tangents.

It would be impossible for me to describe our accent to anyone who isn't from here. I have worked to tone it down, but the fact remains I speak just like everyone else from Pittsburgh.

That is an exaggerated example of how I speak. It is a fairly accurate representation also of how we give directions around here.
