Of those three, Goldwater, but I suspect Ron Paul is probably responsible for a lot of the newer libertarian conservatives.

I don't know, but it had already happened before Goldwater. Robert Taft was a "libertarian conservative," for instance.

Though Robert Taft has become a cult hero to Libertarians, he was actually considerably more moderate and pragmatic than many of his ideological descendants are. He was an old-fashioned Midwestern Republican, skeptical and suspicious of the massive expansion of the federal government under FDR, but IIRC, he was not necessarily opposed to many social welfare programs.

You're probably right. Most of the Paul disciples I've met have no idea who Barry Goldwater even is.
