The NDP might win Brampton East with Gurpeet Dhillon, but I wouldn't bet on it right now.  Malton itslelf isn't that big, and is the only part of the new riding that transferred from Bramalea-Gore-Malton.

Dhillon just won a seat on Brampton city council, not sure if hes ready or willing to jump off council and run another campaign for the third time in less then a year (June ON election and Oct Municipal).
Part of the success of the NDP was Singh and Dhillon as candidates, the NDP will need to field a strong candidate to really be in play, even with the recent success in the area both last federal and provincially (again much credit needs to go out to Singh himself)

Wherry on various outcomes, though I firmly believe in Wells' First Rule.

Tim Harper: NDP should offer a choice, not an echo.

In nomination news, the NDP will acclaim incumbent MP Charlie Angus as their candidate in Timmins-James Bay tonight. No other party has a candidate there.
Not sure if there is any truth to this, but I've heard the Conservatives are trying to get former Timmins Mayor Tom Laughren to run.

Former Kingston mayor Mark Gerretsen wins the Liberal nomination in Kingston and the Islands, ON. The riding is currently held by Liberal Ted Hsu, who will be retiring after just one term. The Greens have already nominated a candidate, Nathan Townsend. Gerretsen defeated six other candidates to win.

The NDP acclaimed incumbent MP Laurin Liu in Riviere-des-Mille-Iles, QC. The Tories have already nominated education director Erick Gauthier, who ran in the riding in 2004 and 2006.

Nunavut, Nunavik MPs to run for re-election
The offices of Leona Aglukkaq, Romeo Saganash confirm each MP will run again in 2015

But the NDP, which has yet to announce a candidate in Nunavut, will likely have to pick up the pace this spring in order to remain as the official opposition in the House of Commons.

United Church minister Jeffrey Rock was acclaimed as the Liberal candidate in the new riding of Red Deer-Lacombe yesterday. He will face off against Wetaskiwin MP Blaine Calkins of the Conservatives. Half of the new riding will be carved from Wetaskiwin, which contains Calkin's hometown of Lacombe. The other half of the riding comes from Red Deer.

Good riddance. She was one of the most extreme social conservative and was waging a war or pornography, without much success.

Yeah Joy Smith was a real prude - she had a weird obsession with sex - the only time she ever spoke out it was about prostitution, pornography or the age of consent - if there was no sexual angle she had no interest. Usually people who are that uptight and obsessed with sex are secretly into some very weird stuff sexually themselves

Ivison thinks a spring election.

Cohen: Trudeau must address FP. Ironic thing is that Trudeau has represented himself as more worldly than Harper.

Gordon Campbell as Tory candidate in Vancouver-Granville? His High Commission term ends before the election, and no denials yet.

Gordo? Would be an interesting pick, but I've heard that his expense accounts at the London High Commission were a little large for him to be so quickly welcomed.  He would make a good Tory Candidate among the more affluent voters of the riding, though it is important to note that while the Shaunessey voters take up a lot of space, the vast majority of voters in the riding are in apartments and multi-unit dwellings, and are much less amenable to the Tories then they were to the BC Liberals

That being said, Campbell is of amorphous politics federally.  Whether he voted for Joyce Murray or Deborah Meredith is purposely unknown. He's a technocrat above all things. Among his acts as premier was to more-or-less prohibit federal political activity among BC Liberal MLAs, staff, and officials after some of the Martinites working for the government got out of hand.

Could he end off pulling a reverse "David Emerson"?

Why would he bother running for the Tories in that case? The Tories only won Granville 35-30 in 2011 and the Liberals have had a pretty impressive improvement in BC.

Deltell is set to run for the Tories in Louis-Saint-Laurent, perhaps bringing some caquistes with him for other ridings. Been an open secret for eons.

Funke on how a little-known FEA clause could balloon the spending limit if Harper calls a mega-campaign.

Gordon Campbell left as Premier of B.C with something like a 7% approval rate.  I thought he was a good small l liberal premier after his first term and I thought the HST was good policy (though obviously bad politics) , but  I don't believe there is anyway he could overcome the dishonest way he brought in the HST.

I hadn't paid attention to Canadian politics until last year, so excuse my complete ignorance on this question, but why has the NDP fallen so badly? Was it because Trudeau has taken up all of the oxygen or did Mulcair really screw things up?

In English Canada, the former. Here in Quebec Mulcair has always been quite strong and personally more popular than Trudeau, especially among Francophones. NDP still has a decent lead with Francophone voters.
