Back to the future: Grit MPs criticizing their leader in the media again. Not as juicy as Taber on Dion/Iggy.

So i wonder what happens to the CTV anchor who was supposed to be the Liberal "star" candidate in Scarborough Southwest? Does he now get "Innesed"?

The party may make him fight an uphill battle in Davenport or Danforth.

The Liberals selected Pierre Destrempes (former vice president of a property management company) as their candidate in Berthier-Maskinonge.

Tonight is the NDP nomination in Mississauga-Erin Mills, ON. They will be acclaiming Michelle Bilek who ran in the riding's predecessor of Mississauga-Erindale in 2011 and in Oakville in 2008. The Liberals nominated lawyer Iqra Khalid back in December, and incumbent Robert Dechert is the Tory candidate.

Ivison on Tory wooing of Quebec. Also worth noting: private polling has the Dippers losing their deposits in 20 GTA ridings.

Fyi, you only need 10% to save your deposit and get 50% of your campaign expenses refunded, it hasn't been 15% in 20 years

I'm quite sure deposit is always reimbursed if you log your financial returns in time.

The fact that the NDP is tanking in the GTA is not exactly news right now.

I assume that GTA in this case refers to the 905 suburbs around Toronto which has always been a total NDP dead zone apart from Oshawa and Jagmeet Singh phenomenon in Brampton

This is a totally useless piece of information, and, frankly, journalistically embarrassing. Who performed the survey? Who paid for it? Which ridings are we talking about?

In the US papers like the New York Times actually have rules about restricting the use of anonymous sources to cases where it is in the public interest; you can't just randomly push someone's internal poll without attribution. I wish Canadian papers were responsible enough to follow.

Even the most liberal newspapers (*cough* Toronto Star *cough*) in Canada have no journalist standards. Disappointing, but who really reads newspapers anymore?

This is only really a U.S. rule of journalism. Outside the States, there are no cavils about using anonymous sources, no intricate hierarchies of source descriptions, etc. It's not at all obvious that the U.S. way is better.

The Toronto Star consistently has the absolute WORST most misleading, manipulative and unethical coverage of public opinion polling of any newspaper I've ever heard of. They routinely mis report the data, report on leaked party polls as if they were hard news and overuse very low quality polls by Forum

This, coupled with the fact that the Grits are prepared to run an erratic candidate in a riding they (on paper) would be wanting to win back, suggests a thing or two about their internal polling in the riding. If their polling suggested it was competitive, I suspect they would try to find another riding for her. I doubt they would want her in caucus following the election, particularly if there is a minority.

I agree with Smid, as usual. Grits do the same thing in by-elections.

How long will it take for Trudeau to blame Adams' inevitable loss on the NDP?

Makes sense especially considering that Brampton South, which has a bit bit of common area with Adam's current riding hasn't nominated a candidate yet.

Inevitable loss to Marco Mendicino or inevitable loss to Joe Oliver?

Former CKWX News 1130 reporter (and Mensa member) Sara Norman wins NDP nomination in Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam defeating Michael Bell, Toyota Canada warehouse associate and 2013 Coquitlam municipal byelection candidate.

Proud to announce I will officially be the Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam #NDP candidate in the next federal election. Thank you for the support!

Sara Norman who broke the story of James Moore saying something like "I'm not my brother's keeper" will now be running against him.

Nomination updates:

Yesterday:

- Former Dauphin MP Laverne Lewycky acclaimed as the NDP candidate in Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa, MB. Two other MPs are in the race, the Tory incumbent Bob Sopuck and former Tory MP Inky Mark who is running as an independent. The Liberals are running former RCMP officer Ray Piché and the Greens are running perennial candidate Kate Storey.

- The Liberals acclaimed Tim Kaine in Saanich-Gulf Islands, BC. He'll be running against Green Party leader Elizabeth May.

Today:

The NDP nomination meeting in Kings-Hants was postponed to Feb 22 due to a snow storm. Surprisingly, it is a contested nomination!

Looks like former MP Denis Paradis has won the Liberal nomination in Brome-Missisquoi, QC.

Labour unionist Tracey Ramsey will be the NDP candidate in Essex, ON. She'll be running against Conservative incumbent Jeff Watson and lawyer Audrey Festeryga for the Liberals.

Photographer Frances Litman won the Green nomination in Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke, BC. She'll be running against NDP incumbent Randall Garrison.

Canada's answer to Rick Nolan? Lewycky lost reelection in 1984 and thereafter never sought reelection...until now, a break of 31 years from politics.
