I suggest we name this one in Bushie's honor, after his most recent antics.

Anyway, does it really matter at this point?  I still lost 2 pounds as a result of the 4 sloppy joes.  I guess if I had starved myself by having just one tiny sandwich, I could have lost 3-4 pounds.  There is absolutely no use or no reason to keep bashing me over the head for a dinner choice when I actually benefited from it.  Unless, of course, you want to attack for the sake of attacking, which is mostly what this is all about.

To the hawks, I'm sure it was a Cold War. It was freedom vs. absolute tyranny, capitalism vs. its opposite, religious tolerance vs. state religion, etc. Of course, there were leaders who tried to bridge the gap, and those who tried to view it as nothing more than two relatively equal ideologies, etc. Most wars, for their fighters, are "holy wars". I'm sure the fight against Nazism was for quite a few people a holy war.

Exactly. This is why it was so critical for the Reagan-Thatcher-Gorbachev coalition of leadership that came along at exactly the right time in the 1980s. Liberals thought (and they seemed to have a valid point) that by cooperation or the idea of arms limitation or nuclear freezes, that cooler heads would prevail. The conservatives believed that by poking the snake, building up arms, testing more planes and weapons, calling the Soviet Union an "evil empire" and joking about bombing them and Communism ending up on the "ash heap of history" that the Soviet's would try and compete, fail and thus the war would end without a shot being fired. Nuclear deterrence is a very successful item in the analog of history.

Reagan described it best in 1983 when he said, "I urge you to beware the temptation of pride, the temptation of blithely declaring yourselves above it all and label both sides equally at fault, to ignore the facts of history and the aggressive impulses of an evil empire, to simply call the arms race a giant misunderstanding and thereby remove yourself from the struggle between right and wrong and good and evil."

Those statements in bold were absolute, direct attacks on liberalism itself. How many threads on this forum about something negative have liberals trying to "be above it all" or "equally blame both sides at fault". It's a reasonable concept but in the final analysis, it is the wrong concept. This is why today, I know that past liberal leaders such as Franklin Roosevelt or Harry Truman or even John F. Kennedy might well clash with people in their own party today for the aura of defeatism within the modern Democratic party. I think many Democrats are said to be "unpatriotic" because they seem to want to find both sides at fault. They seem to want their country to have done something negative to instigate a situation. They want to be "fair" and "above it all". Perhaps they feel that if they give equal blame to the U.S. for problems such as war, terrorism, ect, then those who dislike the country will give mercy to them for having openly negatively critiqued their own country.

Much of this can be seen with the War on Terror. Liberals, especially those in the media, chomp at the bit for any act of terrorism to be seen as "isolated" or "possibly Tea Party related" or a "loner". This baffled me at first because liberals are often conspiracy-types. Then I realized that perhaps they did this because they want to avoid admitting that these attacks are all connected. Al Qaida, Hamas, PLO, the beheading in London, Boston. It doesn't matter what the exact specifics, they were attacks against free people. Liberals seem too eager for a blame game, for trying to, as Reagan said, be "above it all". For trying to find a "reason" for the attack. While they may mean well and seem logical, deep down the most complicated things usually are that simple.

so your point is , what, the Subcommittee on the Constitution shouldn't consider bills dealing with abortion?   there should be a gender quota on every House Committee?
Yes.

And while we are at it every Subcommittee should have representation from the Bulgarian-American community so the Bulgarian-American community's rights can be protected.

This entire timeline.

Some tidbits:

As all of you know (unless you have been living under a rock), the country and its allies have been in war for almost three years against the axis of The New Soviet Union, Communist France, China, The Islamist Alliance, Cuba, The United Socialist Rebpublics of Scandinavia, Venezuela, Argentina and Korea. President Newsom has been largely blamed for causing this war for not protecting our ally Turkey against invasion from Iran. There have been two invasions of Turkey in the recent years: the one in 2025 under President Rubio's timewatch that got straightened out in six short months and the one in 2029 during Newsom's administration that snowballed into the Third World War we are fighting today. IMHO, if you don't want a nuclear Holocaust, Vote ABN (anyone but Newsom!)

Selena Gomez--age 39--Junior US Senator from Texas

I used to have a huge crush on this girl when I was in high school. In fact, she was a Disney star 25 years ago and an international sex symbol just 15 years ago; not a conventional career before going into politics. Selena also was a chief campaigner for former President Rubio when he ran successfully both in the elections of 2020 and 2024. Gomez is a big hit with young male voters but not that much with women (she is strictly opposed to abortion). Although being extremely conservative on social issues she has many liberal views concerning the environment and immigration. If she wins she will be the second hispanic president (although she is only half) and the third Catholic president in a row (Christie, Rubio, Newsom and then her). Gomez also would be the youngest president ever and of course, the first female president. We already have a female VP (Stephanie H. Sandlin) so it's about time we get a woman for president! Interestingly, she went out with the late teen singer Justin Bieber, whose early death at age 24 illustrates how fame at an early age can negatively impact a person.

David Henrie--age 42--Junior US Senator from Arizona

The libertarian vice-presidential nominee in 2028, Henrie became a senator in a special election to take the seat of John McCain after his death in 2024. An interesting fact about him is that he starred on the children's TV "Wizards of Waverly Place" alongside fellow candidate Selena Gomez (his "sister" on the show). Though Henrie is a republican he strongly agrees with many views of the Libertarian party and ran on the bottom of their ticket in 2028. He has stated that he will seek the libertarian nomination if he fails to get nominated for the Republican ticket.

Freddie Prinze, Jr.--age 55--governor of New Mexico

Another former actor though not nearly as famous as Selena Gomez. Prinze is strongly against big government and like the fellow Southwestern candidate Henrie, he is part of the more libertarian wing of the Eepublican Party.

Kyler Boller--age 50--governor of California

A former NFL Quarterback, Boller has a close group of supporters who liked his economic plans when he was governor of California and previously mayor of San Diego. His wife Carrie is an ex-model famous for her controversial remarks about gay marriage over 20 years ago.

Hooray for the Sloppy Joe/Mexican Food/Ice Cream diet!

I'll admit, the diet hasn't been what you would consider a "weight-loss" diet, and by no means can it last too much longer, but 6 pounds is 6 pounds.

Do you think you really lost 6 lbs. by eating that?

I lost 6 pounds somehow and I know it wasn't by exercising. Tongue

I can tell where you're coming from. It's a serious case of demented minds thinking alike. Also, what was up with Jack empty quoting BK's post? There was absolutely no reason for that. Very childish of him.

Personally, I have no problem with having homosexual ministers, at least as long as they don't push their lifestyle on me or others or try to legitimize it when the Bible is pretty clear in both the Old and New Testaments that homosexuality is a sin.

Ron Paul has kept his Libertarian views for forty something years. Keep in mind, most people abandon their Libertarian views when they get into trouble and want somebody else to cover for them. The fact that Ron Paul has kept his views while remaining a doctor says something.

Emphasis mine.

Those types can self-deport to California and take their problems with them.

And therein lies the problem of Federalism. That is no way to run a railroad. We are one nation, and states generating externalities and distortions, and handing out bribes to keep industries and so forth in a race to the bottom in more ways than one, creates economic distortions, and wastes money, by the rail car full.

Incidentally, externalities, distortions, and bribes are commonplace in the Washington DC morass, as unscrupulous individuals dispatch lobbyists to leech money. It is no coincidence that Washington DC borders many of the wealthiest counties in the United States as they serve as breeding grounds for parasites.
