Yeah, what Scott said. Saying "I have black friends" is neither an excuse nor a defense. You made a statement that was both awful in general, and also quite racist. I don't care the colour of your friends' skin, it's what you said that was awful and how you attempted to defend it that made it worse.

You know I kind of sympathize with the far right's position on this stuff, but for a completely non-religious reason as I also oppose churches of a similar style and size. I dislike church buildings unless they are very non-descript or just some rented out coffeeshop or warehouse or part of another building. Of course that's not to say showy churches or other religious buildings should be banned but I do wish they would cease to be built.

Exactly. I use that defence to explain how I'm not racist: "I have no Black friends, therefore I'm not racist, because I don't have a "token" Black friend".
