If Grimes speaks out against gay marriage, the national party should completely pull the plug on all of her funding. Drop her from the ballot if possible.

Would we run a racist if it meant we might win? Of course not. Anti-gay bigots shouldn't be treated any differently.

The disgusting and absurd thing here is referring to Fake Grimes as 'Grimes', when only Real Grimes may be referred to as such.

it's because of carter that the inflation wasn't around to hurt reagan and he basically sacrificed his second term for it

Everyone knows Carter began the long process of fixing stagflation. Everyone knows he was about 2 years late to make the necessary policy changes.

He didn't sacrifice his second term. He lost it by acting to timidly and slowly in '78 and '79

Ben is never, ever going to change

Probably have joined Powell's concurrence, maybe Burger's dissent.

Judges are not there to express the will of the people, legislatures are.

Then why have legislatures done such a terrible job of it?

it's all total nonsense.  my hunch is that baby Boomer liberals have this psychological need to see society progress to these previously unknown heights of tolerance, and by allowing a few thousand gay couples in each state marry they actually think they're making a Rosa Parks-esque imprint on society.

not a few liberals compared Edie Windsor directly to Parks.  keep in mind Windsor's case only reached the SCOTUS because she had to pay a $363k tax as a result of her partner dying!  Rosa Parks wouldn't have known which real estate agents to hire if she had $363k in 1955 dollars.  my father, himself a baby boomer Jewish liberal, said something to me like "your generation will take it for granted, but gay marriage is revolutionizing society in a way you probably can't understand".  I just glared at him, as I usually do when discussing any topic this side of minor-conference college basketball.

the end result of this is that gays are joining the post-WW2 Jews as the most privileged group in world history: not disadvantaged at all by any demonstrable economic statistic, yet enjoying multiple "extra" protections under the law.

I don't see what's particularly absurd about that. The bolded part is a bit excessive but there's a grain of truth to the post.

A grain of truth in an avalanche of awful.

We can compare the plight of Jews and the plight of homosexuals, but any individual conclusion needs a hundred clarifications to avoid being offensive and callous to one or the other. It's doable, and maybe there's something in there somewhere, but bothering to try out loud will just make you sound silly.

Truly that's more valuable than a million pounds.  Maybe not ten million pounds, but certainly more than one million.

The bolded bigotry ruined what otherwise would've been a rational point. It wasn't a "bit excessive", it was more like a full speed launch into idiotville.

"the obamanation deluge of absurdity, ignorance, and bad posts iii" does have a nice ring to it.

Since there was also a short-lived poster named Obamanation, the thread would have to be called "The The Obamanation Deluge" which doesn't really sound right.

2016 and 2020 are locks for Hillary, while 2024 and 2028 for whoever is her VP, because of her popularity that, as we all know, is set in stone.

The GOP might as well dissolve now.

Typical 2016 board post.

You're really entering this into the Deluge?

Yes, that's what is called absurdity.

I think that's what is called sarcasm.

I think it's satire, which involves the intentional use of absurdity.
However treating satire as not satire is also absurd.

True, it doesn't seem to fit the description of sarcasm, especially since I think it's not directed at anyone in particular. Satire fits much better.
