I know this is as late as all get out, but to get the older maps, simply change the part that says year=2012 (or whatever number) to the year you want it to be.

For example, here's a map posted by PolitiJunkie above:

And here's the same map, except I changed the year to 1824!

it's very cool, though it doesn't work before 1824. and you'll need to manually change the electoral vote to the year you are changing the map to.

Can anybody help me figure out how to add Puerto Rico to a map? For the 2024 election map in my TL All Stand Down.

When you copy and paste the map link, change the part of the url that says "TOOLS" to read "USPRESIDENT". This will cause Puerto Rico to appear on the map in grey. You can then change the color and number of elector votes by adding "&PR=1;3;5" (or whatever you want the color/ev number/pv shade to be) to the end of the code.

I attempted to add AS (American Samoa) and VI (Virgin Islands) and it did not add those on.

EDIT: I'm now curious to see if Canadian provinces can be added or if there's a way to make a map of just Canada. The provinces are encoded somehow (see my avatar).

PR is included on the primary maps (see: https://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/index.html), which is probably why it shows up but AS and VI don't.

Well, for one, that map is circa 2013, when I was in the first few months of my being here, so I was only starting to know about electoral politics. Second, the Mississippi and Lousiana gaining votes, as well as states like Idaho and Montana gaining some again are complete crap. So much for my 2013 predictions lol

How to add all the colors of the rainbow to your map, courtesy of darthebearnc.

Do not fear! Simply access the map URL and replace all of the beginning text up to "AL" with the following:

Based on my projections I would use a slightly different map for 2024. Compared to BigVic I currently have AZ and OR up, NY down and VA not up. You can see from my linked post where the bubble seats are.

Here's my annual projection from the new estimates. I used the July 2015 estimates and the April 2010 Census base to get an annual growth rate. This correctly accounts for the 5 and a quarter year period between the Census and the estimate. I then applied the annual growth rate to the 2010 reapportionment population to get the 2020 projection. This accounts for the extra overseas population used in reapportionment but not for redistricting. Ten years is a long stretch for a simple model like this, but here are the projected changes.

There a number of changes since my projections last year. AL is down, AZ is up, OR is up and VA isn't up. The bubble seats in this projection are based on the last five awarded and the next five in line.
The last five awarded are CA-53, TX-39, OR-6, CA-54, and AZ-10 (#435).
The next five in line are FL-29, AL-7, VA-12, NY-27, MT-2.

What if you wanted to increase the number of electoral votes in Maine or Nebraska, which give theirs out by congressional district? Or what happens when you try to make another state give out votes by district?

Unfortunately, you'd have to edit them onto the map yourself through MS Paint or something. For example, here is 2012 with districts added to Oregon, Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Iowa. Notice the unorthodoxy the CD placement of Arkansas and Mississippi.

That's unfortunate. There's always the chance that Maine/Nebraska could get more districts in the future, it would have been cool to at least account for that. Oh well

Sweet, I got 12 colours for a potentially messy primary season. 12's probably the max though; any more and you'd be getting colours that aren't as distinct from one another
