Relations to Presidents

Are any of you related (distantly) to any (US) Presidents?

FDR was my 9th cousin, twice removed. GWB is my 9th cousin, once removed and GHWB is my 9th cousin. The Bushes are descendants of Mary and John Washburn, an early New England couple who are my ancestors and FDR and Mary also happens to be a descendant of a Mayflower passenger linking me to FDR as well.

A bit of a mix bag there.   Anyone else look into this? I'm sure most people of American stock has some distant connection to a President.

How are you figuring all this out? It's really cool, but I can't say I have the same wealth of resources to make an informed statement about my ancestry.

My housemate does insist, though, that John Adams is some sort of great-great-great-great-great-etc.-grandfather of hers. I don't know if I buy it, but the thought is neat.

That's very cool, Hatman.  I don't think I'm related to any presidents.  But, though I've never been able to establish it, my family might actually be distantly related to the Brothers Grimm.  Poetically appropriate, I guess.

I'm distant cousins with Zachary Taylor, that's about it . My family did come aboard the Mayflower so there might be more

Well, I've known for a while that the Bushes were a descendant of John and Mary Washburn, so the trick was to trace myself up the Washburn ladder.  I did a few google searches, and found the link.

You'd think the Mormons or somebody would have an online searchable database of Americans that would tell you who your famous distant relatives were and how the six degrees work. Come on, Mitt Romney. You've got a lot of free time on your hands all of a sudden.

I am descended from the Compton family, and I know that the Earl of Wilmington (the second PM of the UK and a favorite of Caroline of Ansbach) is a great-great-great-great-great etc Uncle of mine. So through that family I am sure I am related to several other members of the political elite in Britain and in the UK. I would not be surprised if I was related to the Washington or Lee families.

IIRC, all presidents are related to each other in some way except for Van Buren.  So, if you're related to one president, you're probably related to all of them.

As for me, I don't think I'm related to any presidents.  I am, however, a distant cousin of Howard Dean.

I don't think I'm related to any presidents, but it's possible since my ancestry is primarily Scottish and Irish.  I may, however, be related to Mike Pence, and it's been established that I am distantly related to Neil Armstrong, who, though not a politician, is a significant figure nonetheless.

Probably got a couple of president rattling around... but the only ones I know of...

On my mother's side I'm a direct descendant of Charles II's illegitimate son Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond - which therefore means I'm also related to the Duchesses of Cornwall, York and the late Diana, Princess of Wales -  I can see my bloodline go back a long way (considering Charles II's bloodline in English, Scottish and French royalty.

On my father's side apparently there's a bit of illegitimate stuff with George II, when he was Prince of Wales... but very little to support that.

But the thing is... most people of English descent are related to a King or a Duke somewhere along the line... it really isn't special.

Nothing at all. Having farmers in rural Quebec and fishermen in Eastern Quebec as ancestors doesn't help.

I'm related (only through a marriage, mind) to an ex-Canadian Minister of Defense and Governor of Nova Scotia

Also very distant relationship (whose details I've always been hazy on) to various councillors in the UK including one former mayor of Salisbury.

Perhaps you're related to some Prime Ministers then? Genealogy of Anglo PMs is sparse on the internet, but there's some good stuff on Francophone MPs.

I'm  vaguely related through marriage to an ex-Irish President (her grandchildren are my... cousins? Second cousins? I don't know), but then again it's a small country.

I'm related to Chester Alan Arthur's wife.  That's as close as we know.

William Howard Taft was my great-great-great grandfather's brother.  So, that makes our nation's fattest President my great-great-great-great uncle!

I also have a cousin who dated Barbara P. Bush (the twin) a few years ago...not sure if that really counts.
