I fully expect him to be caught with a 12 year old Mexican boy in the shower at some point.

Entrapment should be against the law.

Lot of pedo sympathizers up in here...

Entrapment should be against the law.

It is (well, it's a defense against criminal liability, but still), and To Catch a Predator is very much not entrapment.

Part of a sensationalist media that perpetuates a culture of fear and paranoia in modern America.

Yeah, unless I have a hugely incorrect interpretation of what is entrapment, that show has nothing of it.
I mean, the guys looking to have sex with 14 years old aren't forced to do anything, which is what entrapment is all about.

Entrapment should be against the law.

It is (well, it's a defense against criminal liability, but still), and To Catch a Predator is very much not entrapment.

it probably isn't in most cases, but it is usually a severe violation of any principles surrounding rights of the accused and innocent until proven guilty.  not that I actually know how it functions, but I would very strongly assume that the pedo- (or ephebo?  it's not like Casey was any sort of 8 year old) suspects on the show either a) don't have a right to prevent the tapes from airing, or b) are basically prevented from exercising their right to block the tapes because they get help paying their legal bills or the prosecutors are in on the game and cut them a better plea deal contingent on the tapes hitting the air.

so it doesn't have to go anywhere near the category of Entrapment (which is overused and misunderstood, yes) in order to be offensive to someone who believes strongly in rights of the accused.

I should make a point to go further here and claim I still have a fundamental problem with this sort of law enforcement activity, of 'fishing' for and essentially moving to create crime, independent of any hideous late-capitalist bread & circus aspect being added into the mix.

HP.  To Catch a Predator never did anything that law enforcement isn't perfectly capable of doing on its own.  The show just seems to be taking advantage of people's fascination with pedophilia, and using it for exploitative ends.  And in fact, as some in law enforcement have alleged, it might make things worse, by complicating the prosecution of the suspect, via the questionable collusion between NBC and law enforcement, including Hansen's interviewing of the suspect on camera with no lawyer present before the arrest is made.

EDIT: Watch the 20/20 investigation of To Catch a Predator for a more comprehensive explanation of all the problems with the program.

All true.  But let's face it, MM, these guys just plead guilty, with public defenders glad that they do.......another injustice of the show.

Pretty much what Tweed said encapsulates my position here. Even pedophiles deserve the right to a fair trial, one without the media circus that is To Catch a Predator.
