Nope. Even from a neutral perspective, the unpopularity of the hyper-conservative GA will probably rub off on him.

There are lots of people around Charlotte who will look past his far-right record as Governor; they just remember him from the good times when he was mayor.

North Carolina GOP is pushing hard right.  This is the first time that NC GOP has complete control of North Carolina in 130 years: McCrory as Governor and Republican supermajority in the general assembly.

A lot of Democrats split-ticket for McCrory and gave him high marks because he was the mayor of Charlotte. I doubt that that would happen again: McCrory was working with Democrats in Charlotte as oppose to hard core Republicans in the general assembly.

What the NC GOP is doing now is a huge overreach. Unfortunately, North Carolina Democrat is in no position to take on North Carolina GOP.  NCDP is currently in complete shambles, plaque by scandals, lack of leadership, etc.

I think it depends on what the Assembly leaders do. Politically, he's really at their mercy.

Spineless governor don't dare use his veto. He's probably deadweight by 2016.

Like you said, he will be OK in the private sector after voters dump him in 2016.

In the 704 area code (Charlotte) he did 19 points better than Romney. McCrory started his term with a 47/24 approval there and is now breaking even at 47/47.

McCory threw away any chance of being POTUS one day or even a vice-president by some of the stuff he has done as governor. His record is love/hate so far  as governor. Cutting unemployment benefits is unexplainable.

If an inoffensive blue-dog like Mike McIntyre runs for governor in 2016 McCory will be in some trouble.

It's also only 2013. Like Kasich can attest, McCrory can recover most definitely.

His approval rating is dropping every month. It's not even close to hitting bottom yet.

Kasich got his approvals up by moderating himself. McCrory's approvals come the radical Assembly, not necessarily himself. So his approvals are beyond his control, unlike Kasich.

Yep. McCrory already had an image as a 'moderate Eisenhower Republican' which is becoming increasingly tarnished. Ergo:

I think it depends on what the Assembly leaders do. Politically, he's really at their mercy.

Absolutely not. The legislature is pulling him under fast so I'll bet he'll be way under in 2014 but have decent favorables.

Yeah if things keep going the way they are going McCrory's going down in flames come 2016. But there's still 3 years, he could potentially turn things around.

I doubt it though, unfortunately.

At this rate, his approval rating will be as low as Perdue's was. Hillary running for president won't help his reelection chances either.

Yeah true Republicans run the state legislature in Ohio but Kasich doesn't let the Republicans in the Legislature run over him.

McCrory has shown zero signs of moderating or standing up to the legislature

I'm sorry, but why does everyone think Hillary will run for president? Sure, she's the top candidate but until there's any confirmation it's stupid to assume things, It would be very stupid of people to assume Christie will run for president too, when yes he's the top tier candidate, but there's still no confirmation.

McCrory will somehow get around a 55 percent approval rating by the 2014 elections considering the GOP is likely keeping the General Assembly for awhile longer.

By 2016, I do NOT see McIntyre running against him for the governorship. However, 4-term State AG Roy Cooper (D) is much more stronger as a gubernatorial contender, he's 4-0 in statewide elections.

FWIW, I don't see McIntyre as a statewide candidate. If Colin Peterson retires, he's next to be Ranking Member on the Agriculture Committee and he's second in line on Armed Services.

What does everyone think of Anthony Foxx as a challenger?
