I seriously doubt this will have much fruit, but might as well since the Dem's are actually starting to talk about seriously trying in Texas instead of assuming Hispanics will just flock to them with no effort as has been their past hopes.

California could be relatively close if the GOP became a sane center-right party instead of a bunch of nutjobs. Of course, that's not gonna happen (and Rand Paul is part of the problem).

What are you going to do to crack the Hispanic vote Rand?  I mean, how in sync is your idea of the appropriate height of the social safety net versus what the bulk of Hispanics think? What is your plan on immigration again?  How do you feel about right to work laws? How about the minimum wage?  Got any pals in Hollywood that most Pubs don't that can sell you to tinsel town? You see where I am going here Rand?

Dear Rand.

I sure can fool myself with the best of them.  But, when I fool myself, it usually ends up turning out bad for me.  If I could fool myself as massively as you can, I could also convince myself that I have no reason whatsoever to be either pessimistic or unhappy.  So, please teach me how you do it.  Really.  I'd be most grateful.

Admiringly yours,
anvi

I would think that ship sailed for good in 2010, if not 1992.

Sometimes you just have to be a mindless cheerleader for the party. Pelosi "believed" she would keep the gavel going into the 2010. You guys need to stop taking the politicians at their word. They're not as stupid as they pretend to be.

For obvious reasons.

Who would vote for someone saying than they will lose anyways?

It would be more realistic to flip Illinois in the next election rather than California, and I don't see that happening.

If Rand Paul was nominated for President, he'd have a better chance of losing Kentucky than winning California.

Ban the Democrats somehow, govern according to the full Tea Party program, and maybe you can turn California red.

Communist red.

California could be relatively close if the GOP became a sane center-right party instead of a bunch of nutjobs. Of course, that's not gonna happen (and Rand Paul is part of the problem).

The sane center-right types increasingly find themselves  irrelevant to the Republican Party. Just look at what it did to Bob Bennett in Utah and Richard Lugar in Indiana. Just note that elder statesman John Warner said of the Republican Party in Virginia.

The GOP is not going to get the message until it feels a left-populist backlash, especially in the South.

If Schwarzenegger had the same charm as he did in 2003 and Maria Schriver accompanied him during his campaign, he was the only one that could turn CA blue. Barring that, Communist red.

The thing is, then both parties would be center-right.  You're basically saying if the term "Republocrat" that conspiracy theorists throw out should come true.

Rand's idea of California is Mark Zuckerberg and his rich Silicon Valley buddies.

Well we have to remember the audience. Paul was in CA to raise money. Those CA donors want to hear about CA becoming a swing state and finally coming around to their way of thinking. Paul was just feeding their fantasy.
