I sympathize with the intent, certainly, but I can't imagine at this point that there are people out there on the general forum that aren't already involved with Atlasia if they really want to be. I'm not willing to take one side or another on this bill yet until I see Napoleon's advocacy for it.

Is there any legitimate reason to have a seven day waiting period? If you're registered to vote before the election starts, you should be able to participate. I think it's a simple proposition. I don't imagine its a good impression people get when they first cast a vote and it doesn't even get to be counted, even though they were signed up.

I also agree with Napoleon. A seven-day waiting period is ridiculous, and I honestly can't think of one reason why it's a good idea. Like it or not, most "recruiting" happens before an election. To have someone join with all intentions of becoming an active member, only to have us throw away their first vote... it's just a total slap in the face. And what for?

If you meet the post count requirements and manage to get your registration in before the election, you should be able to vote.

A zombie voter will be a zombie voter whether they register a week before the election or an hour before the election. All this hoop will do is unduly postpone this person's "uneducated vote" to the next cycle. And for all the new registrants who don't plan on being zombie voters, yeah—it's a slap in the face. The seven-day period does not remove voters from the rolls, so it's not like it's actually mitigating the problem of disengagement. There are new voters out there who'd probably be able to make a more informed decision than "Hnv1" or "dkrolga" anyway. Like it or not, Atlasian elections are a numbers game—the waiting period itself is just as short-sighted as the recruiting pracitices it's trying to fight.

I totally support that IRL, but IRL and Atlasia are quite different in their organisationnal aspects.

Anyways, we can consider than unregistered voters aren't Atlasian citizens anyways, since they have no link to these subforums.

It's not like in life where accessing voting registration forms is complicated or needs complicated ID. It's VERY simple. I mean, if you register that close, you're surely didn't suddently decided to participate. You were brought here.

This bill is dealing with registered voters, not unregistered voters.

Well, a registered voter won't register, since he is already registered. The target of that bill is unregistered voters.

Damn, forgot it here too.

You know, it doesn't have to be myself who makes the motion to table should a Senator fail to post within that set period. Tongue

NAY

There are risks to be sure, but it might just be worth taking if it brings more people into the game. Not that it matters now though.

This Amendment has enough votes to fail, Seantors have 24 hours to change their votes.

I still have some mixed feelings, especially regarding a possibility of wild voters recruitment, but the truth is, we need more

Pretty disappointing. This would be a correction that would benefit Atlasia.

We need to make voting easier in Atlasia. While we do need to monitor for recruiting from other forums, making it easier to vote is one way to improve the game. When someone votes, they become a part of the game, even if very tangentially. Down the road, they may hold office or contribute in some other way to the game. The key is to get them involved.
