With Michaud running for Governor, this is probably going to be one of the more competitive seats this cycle.

The Democrats already have their first candidate, with State Sen. Emily Ann Cain announcing her intention to run:

Kind of hope Republicans don't settle on Charlie Summers, but I think he'll run for this.

Why is that? Could he potentially win?

No, the opposite. I want a Republican in the seat, especially if its kind of a socially moderate type that the Northeasterners are, but Charlie Summers is not going to win this seat. I mean, Angus King is popular, sure, but that senate race probably should've been closer than 53-31. Summers just has this non-appeal to Mainers.

In other words, he seems like an Ovide Lamontagne type.

Summers was the GOP candidate for Maine's other seat in 2008 (ran way ahead of McCain, too; lost by 9 points), so I doubt he'll go for this.

Right now i don't see a single moderate among the most frequently discussed Republican candidates. ME-2 is slightly more social conservative then ME-1 (considered as a whole), though, surely, not a social conservative district. We will see soon...

Paul LePage is a dick to reporters sometimes. This seems like one of these times.

Actually, he's a dick. He's at best a dollar store version of Chris Christie.
