So, 85 billions for Mideast and 0 for other regions?

That's an issue.

I obviously support this, but I'd be cool with adding in some lines for other regions.

Hope fellow Midwest interests step in, obviously, but I would be a bad Governor if I didn't push for this to stretch somewhat into the Midwest. It would be a boon to our economy, and while things are improving, unemployment is still above 8%.

The problem of adding other lines for other regions is than we would get around 300 or 400 billions. We don't have that money, I think.

Perhaps the best solution is to use federal money to construct high-priority lines between regions (ones that come to mind include Nyman-Richmond-Raleigh (IDS-ME) and Dallas-OK City-Wichita (IDS-MW), though there's certainly more) while regional governments focus on intra-regional HSR and lines to less-populated areas.

Obviously, we can amend it to include other regions.  This was introduced for a constituent, but I forget which constituent Tongue

Less money to well-off white people as they travel to grandma's house, more to commuting workers.

1. The Federal government will allocate $85 billion to the Department of Internal Affairs to be distributed among the five regions for the purpose of refining, upgrading and expanding metropolitan bus networks and subways.

This is my amendment proposal.

I concur with Nix and Napoleon. Intraurban and commuter rail is more crucial than interurban rail.

I absolutely concur with those above that intracity public transport, especially rail transport, is much more important than high speed rail. This is why I am skeptical of the California high speed rail that is being built, since Southern California doesn't really have the public transport system to support that. Though that seems to be changing. Anyways, I oppose this bill.

Nay

I'm not putting more money into the bottomless pit that is the DoIA. If we're putting federal dollars into the regions and trusting them to deal with a task that really is national in scope, we need to have a say in the plan. Like Nix, I know a little bit about high-speed rail, and the Midwest's plan just doesn't seem like a good use of money. Let's work together to connect our regions' most populous cities along a route that works. We want this system to have high ridership, and meandering through Appalaicha and the Rust Belt is a bit questionable.

That's an amendment to transfert it from high-speed rail to public transportation in cities.

We need a "paper bag over head" smiley. Tongue

Still vote nay though. I think we can achieve a lot with high-speed rail as long as it's centred on the right areas. I'd rather work collaboratively on that than spend billions of dollars elsewhere on a project that has no real plan.

As much as I would like to post my present thoughts on the matter, I am going to have to wait until tomorrow. I think I have pushed myself, the computer and the connection to its limit today. Tongue
