"An Evan Bayh run for president will be another wasted chance for democrats to take the white house.

Sure Bayh is a fiscal conservative, looks good, and possess all that the media requires for someone to run for office.

He also has a big scary skeleton in his closet, Larry Matheny.

We all know who Willie Horton is, well, Larry Matheny is Evan Bayh's Willie Horton.

When Bayh was elected gov, he continued the previous adminstration of allowing prisoners to take weekends off. Larry Matheny while on furlow, stalked his wife and stabbed her to death.

The republicans want Evan Bayh to run for president so that they can ressurrect those Willie Horton ads that Bush I ran."

I was searching around another board and I found this comment.  Does anyone know if it holds any merrit?  If this true, it could cripple his chance at winning the presidency in 2008.  This isnt good at all.  Dammit, Evan.

It was Gore's idea to attack Dukakis on the system of furloughs for convicted criminals in Massachusetts. Give him credit, too!

I wouldn't get too excited yet. There's probably more to the story, and people (rightly or wrongly) don't get as upset when someone kills their spouse or a close relation.

As I've said, I think Bayh is weak, but without hearing more not because of this.

I don't think this will have any large impact on Bayh's candidacy.

I figured that. I'd give it 5% crediblity (I'd give Drudge Breaking News stories better cred) so I wouldn't be too worried. Of course, if this poster has a history of having inside info he might be right. (We had this guy on the Atlas named MarkDel who knew via friends he made in his political career that Edwards would be Kerry's VP so you never know)

I don't know whether this is true or not and all I can find out about this Larry Methany is what Nick found from the Indystar forums, but if, this is true, and I stress if, then it evidently hasn't done Bayh NO harm in Indiana!

When Bayh ran for Secretary of State he was more or less known for being Birch Bayh's son and then he was elected governor in 1998 for his first term in a close contest. Assuming, this did happen then it can be assumed in happened in his first term since he stuck with the policy of the previous Orr (GOP) administration

Since then Bayh has won three (re-election as gov. and two for senate) state-wide elections by landslide margins over his GOP opponents on his own merits
