This is my very first timeline so my writing skills are not as in depth as some of you, but I will do my best to keep this interesting. I hope you all enjoy my timeline. All the events that lead up to 2016 are preliminary. The climax that takes place is the 2020 Election that will certainly have a surprising outcome. Like I said this is my first timeline so I hope I can gain your interest
...

A lead up of events that lead us up to 2016..- By 2016, the unemployment rate drops to 5.8 percent
-Obamacare is fully implemented and Americans are happy to have healthcare coverage
-Comprehensive Immigration reform passed
- An increase of domestic and manufacturing jobs have been created
- President Obama has a sudden increase in his approval ratings in February 2015 and do not fall below 52% until he leaves office.

2014 Midterm Elections

Democrats: 53
Republicans: 47
Independents: 2
The GOP picks up 4 senate seats in South Dakota, West Virginia, Arkansas and Louisiana, while meanwhile in Kentucky Mitch McConnell is ousted from the Senate after a challenge by SoS Allison Lundergan Grimes. Grimes defeats McConnell by less than 500 votes and is ruled the winner of the race by the Supreme Court. In Maine, Susan Collins was expected to run for re-election but spontaneously decided not to seek re-election due to citing differences with her party, making her one of the last northeastern republicans to leave the Senate, sharing the same fate as her former colleague.

August 2016..
Obama Approval Ratings
Approve: 57%

Dissaprove 43%

In late 2014, Bill and Hillary Clinton welcomed their first grandchild despite much waiting. Former Secretary Clinton was considering a run,but becoming a grandmother completely changed everything. When asked if the Former Secretary if she was going to indeed run, her response was..

"Are you kidding me, there is no way I would ever seek such political office ever as long as I live. For the first time in over 30 years I have been able to travel, go to the gym, travel and even watch tv. Most importantly, my relationship with my husband has never been stronger. We realized that all the time in public office has put a strain on our relationship. Now that we are no longer in the spotlight we have been able to strengthen our relationship we have been able to re kindle a friendship we have not been able to do in years. Most importantly becoming a grandparent has changed my life." She later added " I feel that my life has returned to it's normality and I have never enjoyed myself and my family in years, I have a great admiration and place in my heart for the people of Arkansas, my former constituents in New York and all the People who supported me as First Lady,  for my Presidential run and as your Secretary of State. I am forever grateful for your gratitude, I have considered my options but I have realized over the past few years that my career in Public Service is over, but not forgotten. There is still alot of work to do, and Bill and I are ready to pass on the torch of a new generation for the Democratic party.

Up next.. 2016 election

Fast forward to general election Season..
With the general election season here and the nominations complete, Biden seemed like he was at a bit of a disadvantage. Many had felt or hoped that a woman would top the ticket, and for a party that wanted to do away with old white men, this looked like a huge thorn in the vice presidents side. Biden knew that if he wanted to win over women, he wouldn't be able to win with another white guy like Brian Schweitzer, he would have to choose a female. His top two choices were Kirsten Gilibrand and surprisingly, Claire McCaskill. In the end Biden wanted a ticket with more regional diversity, being from Missouri, the Biden/McCaskill ticket would definitely help in the Mid-west. Also, by winning re-election in a red state by a huge margin, Claire McCaskill knew how to win over women's votes..
/center]

For Christie, his wishes were similar, to prove that the Republican party was not just the party of old, white, rich men, but a party that could reach out to Latinos and Women. His top 2 choices were Susanna Martinez and Kelly Ayotte. Christie chose Martinez because she hit a double whammy, being a woman and Latino, and was also the Governor of blue state.
/center]
After choosing their running mates, Biden and Christie and Biden remained relatively close in the polls going into the conventions:
Without Tossups

Both parties have very enthusiastic conventions, but some Tea Party GOP and Evangelical Christinas are disappointed in the choice to nominate Christie, another more moderate Republican..
Gohmert on the O'Reilly Factor-"For Governor Christie to call himself a republican much less a conservative is a sellout piece of fraud.. Christie is in fact just as much of a socialist marxist just like out our current President and so is his RINO, socialist illegal immigrant lover running mate
But the convention brought back many old faces, like former President George W. Bush who made is first national appearance since leaving the Presidency and received a very welcoming response from the conservative crowds, reaffirming to them that it was okay to support the Christie Martinez ticket.
During his convention speech Christie said: "Our country has come such a long way in recovery in the past few years, and I give the President credit for his hard work, but I believe that this administration has not always taken responsibility and credibility for their actions, always blaming Congress and others. As President I will take credibility for my actions." "The President Obama's heart has been in the right place with his polices, but they have not been the solution. I will vow to work with both sides of congress to come up with bipartisan solutions to the problems that are facing our issues. Most importantly, I want to acknowledge that some members of this party have more conservative views than myself, and although we had a long hard fought primary, I would like to put all of the hardships behind us and I want you to know that I will always respect your rights and best interests and work hard to fight for some of the interests my opponents fought hard for. God Bless you all and God Bless the United States of America.

Despite a sincere speech from Christie, his primary opponents were not buying his words.
Ted Cruz-" Governor Christie can spew all these fake words and promises, but it cannot change the reality that he believes in the same socialist policies that our current President has drowned and destroyed with our constitution shredded. The Democratic Party has been subversive to our nation and already overthrown our government and disarmed our citizens. Governor Christie has no right to call himself a conservative and as president he would allow the same things to happen. The President can say our nation is healing all he wants because he is really spewing us propaganda. Our nation is in turmoil and not far from a replication of Castro. Mao and Stalin did to their citizens. The Vice President has no credibility or respect for our nation and would continue the United States further down that road to catastrophic destruction, so would Governor Christie. We need a real conservative to repair the catastrophic damage faced by our nation which is why I am announcing my own candidacy on the Platform of the Tea Party.

Part 2: Democratic Convention
The Democrats had an energized convention with a giant filled arena to nominate Joe Biden and Claire McCaskill. Bill and Hillary Clinton , President Obama, Governor Andrew Cuomo, Congresswomen Tulsi Gabbard, Secretary of State John Kerry and Former Vice President Al Gore all were individually the biggest highlighted speakers at the convention, but the showstopper was the Rockstar Keynote speech by Senator Elizabeth Warren who gave one of the most compelling keynote speeches replicating the significance and power of Barack Obama's speech in 2004 and the enthusiasm of Ann Richards 1988 keynote speech. Media and critics all universally praised Warren's keynote speech and called it one of the greatest political speeches at a convention in decades. Most important was Biden's nomination speech.
/center]
Highlights and excerpts from Biden's speech
"My friends, for the past 8 years I have worked with and watched Barack Obama and action and I can honestly say he is the most hardworking and most giving man I know, we suffered through disagreements but we always laughed with each other at the end of the day. Barack Obama has fought hard for the last 4 years and I want to fight for the next 8 years. America we have come so far, why would we want to go back to where we came from?.. I want to tell you something, Governor Christie is my friend and he is a good man who works with both parties in his state, but how could anyone ignore he is just a rubber stamp of the same types of Republicans who failed us... I am running for President because I want an America where everyone gets a fair chance to become a successful business person or CEO, not government handouts to help us succeed like our opponents spew at us, an America where our Gay brothers and sisters, sons and daughters are protected from discrimination, where elderly dad is not turned away from a life saving heart operation because his insurance company will not pay for it, and where government cares for the well being of it's citizens after birth and not just in the womb. America, we have come almost all the way there in the past 8 years, you have seen an economy nearly turnaround and an auto industry revive and a world where Osama Bin Laden is dead and General Motors is still alive.. If my father were here today he would have said Joey, you done good my son! Before you vote I want you all to ask yourselves.. Is America a fairer and better place than it was 8 years ago and you say no, well, I think you have a choice cut out for you, but If you say yes fight with Claire McCaskill and I and give us your good will and ernest efforts to help us win! Thank you, God Bless you and God Bless the United States of America.

Post Convention Polling:
Joe Biden/ Claire McCaskill D 48%
Chris Christie/Susanna Martinez R 42%
Ted Cruz/ Benjamin Carson 6% Tea Party

Due to a more united party convention Biden jumps in the polls after the convention. Biden has surprised the media of so far running a near flawless campaign, free of any major gaffes so far.
Map change
Vice President Joe Biden/Senator Claire McCaskill 283

Election Campaign..
2016 Senate races, the Republican Party made some small moderate gains in the senate despite narrowly losing the house and their leader Mitch McConnell, however they face an extremely difficult map to defend especially in blue and democrat leaning swing states. They hope that a Christie win can help their momentum, but it may not be able to save some extremely vulnerable GOP Incumbents.
Here is a preliminary polling map

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, John McCain, Chuck Grassley and Tom Coburn are all retiring
GOP senators at high risk for defeat: Mark Kirk, Ron Johnson, Kelly Ayotte, Rob Portman, Roy Blunt, Pat Toomey and Richard Burr. Democrats are also in a good position to pick up in Iowa and are in arms reach in a competitive race to puck up John McCains old seat. The Democrats have a good chance at winning a supermajority in the Senate, but control of the House is a complete tossup right now.
Generic Congressional Ballot
Democrats 45%
Republicans 47%

Presidential Poll
Biden 47%
Christie 47%
Both Biden and Christie have run strong campaigns without any questionable statements or moves and right now the Presidential race is purely a tossup.

my guess: I think either McCaskill is the iron lady, running after Biden decides not to go for reelection, or it's whoever runs against the Democratic ticket

Campaign and Election Results
Throughout the fall campaign prior to the debates, Biden held a small lead after the convention, but the bounce in the polls faded a week later. Biden and Christie were virtually tied and went back in fourth in the lead, but never leading more than 2-3 %.

First Debate
The first debate was held in Cleveland Ohio on October 4th, 2016 on Domestic Issues. Biden was very confident and folksy and charming in the debate, however Governor Christie was low key and pundits believe he echoed President Obama's poor first debate performance four years ago. Most media polls believed that Vice President Biden was the clear winner of the debate.
Who won the debate
Biden 55%
Christie 44%

Biden and Christie greet eachother before the debate

Vice Presidential Debate
The first and only Vice Presidential debate took place in Phoenix Arizona between Senator Claire McCaskill on foreign and domestic issues. Martinez hoped to make up for Christie's poor debate performance and many believed she did. However both candidates were very strong making the VP debate a complete draw. Many believed that this VP debate would not change the outcome of the election and both of them did favours for both presidential candidates.

Town hall Debate
The Second Presidential Debate took place in Richmond, Virginia. A variety of topics were back. Christie was back in full force, but so was Biden. Media called debate a draw much like VP debate

3rd Presidential Debate
A third foreign policy debate was held in Raleigh, North Carolina. Biden seemed tired and at times acted like a raging lunatic, and this was the first time people really started to question if Biden's judgement would be jeopardized  due to his age. He made multiple gaffes, like suggesting repeatedly that Christie would invade Iran and Syria when Christie never said even close to such thing. This was a bad night for Biden at on of the worst times possible. Christie acted Presidential and was very on top of foreign policy where Biden seemed very tired and disoriented. This was probably Biden's worst debate performance ever in his 12 years participating i n national debates and Christie's best ever of the three.

Who won the debate
Christie: 77%
Biden: 19%

After the third debate Christie held a small lead that lead into the beginning of November. Biden fought hard in the final campaign battle and got very personal on the campaign trail, he had a small bounce back in the polls but is was short-lived.
Biden and Christie on the campaign trail for their closing remarks.

Excerpts:" I'm running for President because I believe that there is no way to turn back after what we have accomplished in the past four years. I have a vision for America that gives everyone a fair shot to all of our citizens, where health care is a right and not a privilege and where the colour of our skin or sexual orientation does not prevent us from becoming big in this country. If you believe in this same vision for America, I ask you to fight and stand with Claire McCaskill and I on election day. God Bless you and God bless the United States of America.

Governor Christie: America needs a new course. For the past 8 years we have seen very slow progress, but we can do more. I have a simple plan to get America back on track that includes balancing the budget and creating more American jobs. I believe with work from both parties we can make America even greater. God Bless you all.

Some of you may be wondering about Ted Cruz.. he has also been running a nationwide campaign, but more of a protest, but he has been getting lots of nationwide support form the Tea Party. He was excluded from all debates but participated in the third party debates. He got nation wide support including his own super pac. He was endorsed by national tea party politicians and evangelicals like Michelle Bachmann, Alan West, Sharron Angle, Sarah Palin, Ron and Rand Paul, Louie Gohmert, Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee,EW. Jackson , Todd Akin and many others.

"Americans need to stop saying Obama is destroying America, he has destroyed America, that he is disarming us, he has completely disarmed our nation and our republic has been destroyed. We have lost our free market and capitalist style health care system, and immigrants will soon take away our Christian nation. Him and his lunatic Vice President are raging communists with pure intentions to destroy our republic and turn us into  authoritarian dictatorship. With Chris Christie in the White House it would be essentially the same. He is a socialist in Republican clothing, and he has no respect for our parties founding principles and alienated and abandoned the parties constituents and gone totally liberal. If America wants to restore to a nation that is 2nd to none I am your only option. The media is refusing to take my candidacy seriously because they are siding with the socialist media dictatorship.

Final Poll before election
Christie 45%
Biden 39%
Cruz 10%

Christie/ Martinez 264
Biden/McCaskill 247
Cruz/*Huckabee
* Ben Carson withdrew from the ticket for unknown reasons and was replaced with Mike Huckabee
Despite the national average, it proves that the Ted Cruz campaign is no joke in the Southern states and puts the election at risk for not winning a majority of the electoral college. Will Ted Cruz be the villain of this election and take this to the house or will he just be thorn in the side of the election results? Find out! Coming up next... final election results.

Election Night in America: 2016

Wolf Blitzer: Welcome to Decision Night 2016, you are watching CNN the most trusted news network to give you the best coverage of the 2016 elections. We are 10 minutes to 7pm where our first polls are about to close.

7pm

Mr. Biden will carry the state of Vermont and its 3 electoral votes, Mr. Christie is declared the winner in the state of Kentucky and 8 electoral votes, Indiana and its 11 electoral votes and Georgia with all of its 16 electoral votes. The race in South Carolina is too early to call but in a surprising result, Cruz is leading by a large margin:
Cruz 44%
Biden 24%
Christie 27%

...
CNN can now project that Senator Ted Cruz, a junior senator from Texas, and who has received very little national attention in his Tea Party campaign has won the state of South Carolina

Christie/Martinez 35 Electoral votes
Cruz/Huckabee 9 Electoral Votes
Biden/McCaskill 3 Electoral Votes

8pm

Christie/Martinez-61Biden/McCaskill-53Cruz/Santorum-14
We can now project that the Vice President is the winner in the state of Illinois and 20 electoral votes, , Massachusetts and 11 electoral votes,Maryland and 10 electoral votes, Connecticut and all 7 electoral, His home state of Delaware and 3 electoral votes,The District of Columbia, and 3 of 4 of Maine's electoral votes.
Governor Christie has been declared the winner in South Carolina and Tennessee
Senator Cruz has won the state of West Virginia
9pm

Vice President Biden will carry the Empire state and all 29 of it's electoral votes, as well as 4 from Rhode Island
We can announce that Governor Christie can celebrate a major win, the 29 electoral votes from the Sunshine star, he has also won Arizona, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas and all of Nebraska's electoral votes
We have not declared several races in several southern states because there is a tight race between Mr. Christie and mr. Cruz, these states are: Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

Ohio: Too close, but Christie leads
Christie 47%
Biden 43%
Cruz 8%

Michigan: Too close, but Biden leads
Biden 46%
Christie 42%
Cruz 5%

Minnesota: Biden leads
Biden 50%
Christie 42%
Cruz 8%

Wisconsin
Christie 47%
Biden 45%
Cruz 6%

Christie/Martinez-131 Biden/McCaskill-83 Cruz/Huckabee-9

10pm

Biden Wins Michigan and Minnesota
Christie wins, Texas, Ohio,Louisiana,Alabama and Montana
Cruz wins Oklahoma
Christie/Martinez-210 Biden/McCaskill-109 Cruz/Huckabee-27

11pm

Christie/Martinez-223 Biden/McCaskill-193 Cruz/Huckabee-27
Biden wins: California, Oregon, Washington
Christie wins: Alabama and Idaho
All other states except for Alaska are still too close to call

12am

Christie/Martinez-267 Biden/McCaskill-203 Cruz/Huckabee-27
Biden wins Iowa
Christie wins Wisconsin, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico
Governor Christie is only 3 votes shy, with Alaska's results coming in an hour, we should expect to make a projection
1am

Christie Wins!!

By winning the state of Alaska, Governor Christie has reached 270 electoral votes, which are exactly the amount of votes needed to be elected President. We at CNN project that Christopher James Christie, 54 years old will become the next president of the United States according to our projections. No word when Vice President Biden will concede the election
The war may be lost for Vice-President Biden, but the battle has not ended because he won 2 extremely close races in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, two states that Governor Christie fought very hard to get.
Final map results

President Elect Christie/ Vice President Elect Martinez-270 Electoral Votes 43%
Vice President Biden/ Senator Claire McCaskill-241 Electoral Votes 41
Senator Ted Cruz/Former Governor Mike Huckabee-27 Electoral Votes 13%
It was the closest race of the night, but we project that the Vice President has won the state of Virginia in an extremely close race, and the very closest of the night by nearly 0.5%. The state of Virginia may call for a recount but that is not official yet.

I'd love to see a bit more reaction and stories about Cruz entering. He'd be the first 3rd party candidate to win a state since 1968. Was Christie nervous about that? Did Cruz attend the debates? (sorry if the aim is to get through Christie's term, but this was a fascinating twist for me)

Good question..I may do a bit more of a write up on him later, but I purposely didn't put much detail into 2016 because I am focusing this timeline on the events of the Christie presidency that lead up to the 2020 election. Not gonna give much away , but you will be hearing a lot from Ted Cruz throughout this timeline.
