Minor Party Only Election Series 1884

3 days, I'm excluding the American party since they collapsed during this election and fell into disarray.

The Prohibition Party has unanimously nominated former Kansas Governor John St. John, who was a Republican at the time of his election. St. John is a Union civil war veteran and helped pass prohibition in Kansas, he also has history helping freed slaves.

The Greenback party nominated former Union Civil War General and Massachusetts politician Benjamin Butler, a former Democrat and Republican. Butler developed quite a negative reputation in the South because of his actions during the Civil War and in general was criticized for his leadership during the war, as he was considered a "political" general.

Butler backed the impeachment of Andrew Johnson and also supported various civil rights acts of the 1870s.  As his running mate, Absolom West provides contrast as he is a Confederate civil war veteran.

A new party under the name Equal Rights has nominated 2 women for President and Vice President, running on the idea of women's suffrage in an era where only men can vote, it will be an uphill climb.

Belva Ann Lockwood is an attorney, women's rights advocate, temperance advocate and equal pay advocate. The Equal Rights Party platform includes equal rights for men and women, a curtailment of the liquor traffic, uniform marriage and divorce laws for the entire nation, and "universal peace."

I really dislike Butler so I'm gonna go with Lockwood and Equal Rights this time.

I guess Lockwood.  Butler's great too, and if I'm correct, his platform did include women's suffrage as well.  But if he were to die (and he was quite old by this point), I wouldn't want a goddamn Reb General as President of the United States.

Sure, if you wanna do it. I started it 76 because post Civil War is just a good demarcation line with American politics (and minor parties basically got started again in 1876).

He died in 1893 OTL so that shouldn't be a specific worry.

True, true - there weren't that many parties besides the Dem Reps (and the Feds, but  those guys) in the early days.

EV is closer than the vote total this time but ER (in red) wins 211 Prohibition comes in 2nd with 160 and Greenback a distant 3rd with 30

Equal Rights is dominant out west while edging out the Greenbacks in the northeast and both Greenback/Prohibition in the plains.

Prohibition expands its hold on the south however as Butler causes the Greenback line to lose luster with formerly Confederate voters.

He probably doesn't support temperance.

I oppose prohibition and the federal government regulating divorce laws.
