Third Way. Having to hold your nose and vote for it for fear of the other candidate, is very fitting for it.

Palin is looking for what makes Palin richer. A Senate run won't be on the menu, but floating one to sell her next book is. She is a master at Newt Gingrich's selling strategy.

Recidivism is often less about being a "hardened" criminal and more about the fact that once you've been in prison, respectable society is closed off to you even if you want to be part of it. No one hires ex-cons except for the really undesirable jobs. Faced with the choice of washing cars or going back to selling drugs, it's obvious a lot of people will take the 2nd option and hope they don't get caught again.

I've never understood the reticence to express love that a lot of people seem to have. I tell close friends I love them all the time and I wouldn't be willing to pursue a relationship with somebody who wasn't a close friend. I don't see the point of being in a relationship at all otherwise.

I also put this, with context, in the Sulfur Mine earlier. At that time I had to run out the door before I could find this thread.

At least the Catholic God isn't anti-worker.

Yes, neo-liberal economics ruined Detroit. Just like they ruined many other localities in America.

A truly vile piece of work with laughable, delusional views, whose "ideas" are deservedly not taken seriously by anyone who is not on the payroll of a number of self-reinforcing, existing-in-a-parallel-universe  "think tanks", or who is not a rich suburban white male serial Internet poster, or who is not a member of a Survivalist cult/"militia" that is oddly obsessed with the phrase, "A Republic, not a Democracy!"

In other words, the perfect spokesman for the Libertarian Movement.

I'm not saying they would be a majority of the population (or even close to it) but where in your opinion have you either experienced it or heard about it influencing the culture?

Personally, I would feel remorseful for causing a person's death even if they slammed my head a hundred times into cement.  But I guess that's just me. Tongue

I never realized there was a gender gap when it came to supporting same sex marriage.

The "ick" factor for straight men.

It's extremely sad that there are so many men out there who are just so grossed out by the thought of gay marriage/gay sex/etc. that they feel the need to tell people they wouldn't be allowed.  Not moral grounds, or traditionalist grounds.. just "EW GROSS!".  Like children, they are.

This is why we need to have a more open society when it comes to sex.  If these guys were getting laid they wouldn't be like this.

Having an open society has nothing to do with it, its all biological. If homosexuality were genetically beneficial, it would be something that the majority of the population would like and fine appealing....but its not. By darwinian terms, its a mutation. But we dont like to use words like that and in 2013, it doesnt really matter that much. The point is, you cant change peoples thoughts or ideas when they're rooted in hundreds of thousands of years of genetic streamlining.

Humans are far smarter than our genetics. We have this cool thing called "higher thinking" that allows us to go beyond instinct.

Dude, why the hell does this thread even exist?

It seems to be a redundancy on the already redundant nature of the Forum Community board to have threads for EVERY FINKSING THING.
If I didn't know better I would swear this was satire.

It's pretty simple. The GPG is for particularly deep, thoughtful, articulate posts. The Silver Mine is for very basic posts that convey a particularly strong message in a few words. The difference is easy to make.

Minimum of 20-25, maximum of 70-75.

My hope is that within half a century years we'll look back at an age in which virtually ever adult was not only permitted to drive, but expected to do so as a matter of daily routine, with a mix of horror and bewilderment.
^^^^

Fun fact: Perhaps you don't know this from your urban liberal elitist bubble, but not everyone lives in a city or within walking distance of a public transit area. If you expect all these people to bike wherever they go you should be placed in an asylum.

Not surprising. Religion is pox on humanity and a frequent shelter for hateful behavior.

How can people have Barfbag on ignore?

He's so funny! In a good way, of course.

I think for some people, humor is laughing at people who agree with you bash people who disagree with you. And you can't laugh if you disagree with someone because its seen as validating their views.

Solution: they need to take some chill pills.

It should be doubled for starters, indexed to increases in worker productivity and inflation, and firing should be made illegal unless you aren't doing your job. Also the work week should be gradually reduced to 32 hours, the closed shop brought back, and scabs banned from being used during a strike.

I thought the whole point of the internet was to live in a fictionalized dream?

As opposed to a non-fiction dream?

actually a non-fiction dream is a pretty good description of much of the internet.

Standing at the altar, arms raised, looking out over the masses, having liberated all from their oppressive atheism and conservative theologies into the new light of Progressive Christianity. After all, if God is not Progressive, then what else can He be? Also, Bill Clinton was just elected to his 6th term last November, a la "Watchmen". For Scott, this, this is freedom.
