I wonder if his BBC colleagues laugh at Nicholas Witchell ("Senior Royal Correspondent"). While they're out covering real stories, sometimes putting their lives on the line, he's reporting about morning sickness.

Double feature from the Cuomo/Hocul thread I'm just catching up on now.  Context necessary on the second quote.

Tomorrow's schedule:

9am-noon:  Scream at staff
noon-1: Lunch
1-2:30: Give Ken Lagone a deep tissue shiatsu massage
2:30-2:31: Phone call to Teachout
2:32-4: Corruption
4-5: Planning cuts to every program that helps poor people
5-6:  Planning out new tax cuts for Wall Street fatcats

It's pretty disgusting that some posters can't express their contempt for Cuomo without slurring Italian-Americans.

I AGREED WITH SANCHEZ ON SOMETHING!

I assume the comments about poor people are true. They actually make me like Hollande more.

I also think poor people are mostly awful and largely responsible for their own plight. I'm a socialist but mostly because I think people are too stupid to live their own lives. They need the government to keep them from falling into outright squalor.
You sir, are a horrible, horrible person. The new "worst."

I always felt Patriot Day was a horrible and totally inappropriate name for September 11th.

(1) It implicitly suggests that there are certain days it's more important to love/be proud of your country than others.

(2) Of all the days you would be more proud than usual of your country, the day its first foreign attack since Pearl Harbor happened at the hands of a bunch of smelly men in pajamas from one of the most @$$-backwards countries in the wold is probably not a good candidate. "How the #$%@ did we manage to let this happen?!" is a more appropriate reaction.

(3) It plays into the unfortunate ethos that followed and had an outsized role in defining the 2000s - the general "Ah love 'Murica an' muh freedoms! If you don't support invadin' the Iraq, you hate 'Murica!" attitude that incites people to buy Hummer H2s, slap 'Support Our Troops' and 'W '04' stickers all over them, and tote their velour tracksuit-clad daughters and collar-popping sons home from school to their heavily-leveraged tract house while blaring Lee Greenwood and Toby Keith songs.

(4) The overwhelming majority of Americans did zero deeds that could qualify as patriotic in the days, months and years following 9/11. Most Americans heeded our president's advice to go shopping. Most Americans unnecessarily bought cars that used too much of the oil that we had to buy from countries that don't like us. Most Americans made the lowest common denominator even lower for public discourse, if they were ever paying attention to begin with.

I tend to think a national holiday honoring firefighters would have been a far more appropriate way to fill up a previously empty space on the calendar. But no one asked me.

Not sure if the Sulfur Mine is more appropriate, but here it is:

Its terrible that the Royal baby news was completely overshadowed by the video of a football player knocking his girlfriend out and dragging her out of the elevator like a caveman.

I, too, am disappointed that a serious national conversation about the NFL's shocking tolerance for domestic violence was not overshadowed by the personal life of a ceremonial figurehead of another country.

Watching white liberal reformists realise they're not the base of the Democratic Party is always a fun time.

It's simply a commemoration in the same way as sharing an image on Facebook or something like that.

Exactly, yes.

And if something like that frustrates you or makes you cringe, you need to rethink what is important in the grand scheme of things.

The Republicans' whoring to the Zionists continues to disgust.

Because Democrats are so much different on Israel.

States are largely artificial anachronisms (with the obvious exceptions of Alaska and Hawaii, where the geography of distance forces their relevance) and should cede most of their powers either up or down, depending on the situation.

The good people of Illinois are looking across the country and seeing the damage Republican governors have done. In Kansas to the west, in Wisconsin to the north, in New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the east, Republican governors have run their states into the ground and destroyed the years of good work Democratic governors had done. The good people of Illinois refuse to follow the same doomed path.

From the same thread as Tony posted from:

I love this thread. This thread truly represents what the Atlas Forum really is about during an election. Just people calling each other idiots and retards and hacks left and right, angered and incensed about the most meaningless of nonsense nothingness. God Bless Atlas.

But, I don't want McCain voters pretending they were down with Kucinich because Rand Paul is the new Republican star.

Quit pretending this poll has any chance of being accurate. Seriously.

We all know that if a poll showed up where Nathan Deal or Scott Walker was leading by 11 we'd all be refusing to believe it in any way, shape, or form - but when a poll (from a newspaper (!)) shows up showing Pat Quinn (who is arguably in more trouble than Deal or Walker) leading by 11 (after public polling showing him trailing for months upon months, and the most recent internal showing him with only a 3 point lead), it's suddenly the most accurate poll in existence, just because Quinn has a D after his name? Quit being ridiculous. If outliers favoring republicans are inaccurate, then so are outliers favoring democrats (and vice versa).

Needless to say, this poll has no stake in my ratings.

I didn't click because I'm lazy, but it is supreme foolishness to assume religion is not a threat to world peace. Religion is just about always a threat to world peace.

I'm beginning to doubt, not the veracity, but the relevance of memphis's claim of having taken religion courses in college. I think we can assume he's telling the truth, but he sure doesn't seem to have learned much from them.

Atheists are to history what Baptists are to biology.

I'm unclear on why people seem to assume that "terrible poster" automatically means "sock account".  People can be terrible posters without ever having visited Atlas in a previous incarnation before.

Even though halloween is still a couple weeks away, I already know what I'm going as.  I going as Gandalf the Rainbow.  It is also when I'm coming out to a few more people.

It was Saruman who was the wizard of rainbows.

Oh, I know that, but most people don't.  That's why I'm going as a gay Gandalf who is also rainbow.  Much easier to explain.

That's a horrible costume.

The fact that people even run for President two years out from an election is a grand indictment of our electoral system.

My dad is a physician who constantly berates his patients about the health decisions they make, all the while being someone who never exercises and is considerably overweight. People can compartmentalize their knowledge and let their emotions interfere when it comes to applying it to their personal circumstances.

And what right does any GOP/Regressive have to call out anyone for hyping a candidate? They're still worshipping a 10 years dead, 25 years out-of-office, Dixiecratic (despite not coming from the South) relic who was a relic even when he first ran?
