And what right does any GOP/Regressive have to call out anyone for hyping a candidate? They're still worshipping a 10 years dead, 25 years out-of-office, Dixiecratic (despite not coming from the South) relic who was a relic even when he first ran?
Relic? Reagan may have been ancient when he ran due to his age, but seeing how close he came in 1976, it made perfect sense that he would run in 1980.

I like how MormDem calls out the GOP for having a double standard on that. First of all, it's the opposition party that beats up on the GOP for idolizing a past President. Secondly, the same people that do that have been slobbering over JFK for much, much longer and his "glamour" has been beaten over the public's head far more often than Reagan's.

I rarely hear Democratic politicians refer to JFK. You can't go 5 minutes listening to any Republican presidential candidate give a stump speech without them name dropping Reagan at least once, usually multiple times.

...get your hearing checked if you "rarely hear" Dems showering praise not only on JFK but the entire Kennedy clan.

Feel free to go through the 2008 Democratic debates to see if JFK was mentioned anywhere near as much. But we both know he wasn't, so what's the point?

Ok? The only tiny problem is that I mentioned that JFK is referenced/quoted far more in general than in politicians' speeches than Reagan.

And since I doubt any organization counted the number of times JFK or the Kennedy's in general werr referenced in Dem debates (since they're so fascinated with just the GOP obsessions), I'm not going to go through all of the Dem debates myself to count the shout outs. Good job giving a completely disingenuous comparison though.

The funny part is that Reagan had a lot of accomplishments (good and bad) to be remembered for. Kennedy is remembered for a young wife and getting his brains spread across Dealey Plazza.

Don't forget all the millennial Democrats Clinton nostalgia and FDR fanboyism.

Phil is a dick, I don't think anybody (even Phil) would argue against that, but I can't see how he is "by far" the biggest one here.

Paul extols my least favourite political virtue, that of "consistency". That's what his supporters use to defend him - "say what you like about Dr Paul, at least he's consistent". In practise "consistency" is a euphemism for closed-mindedness.

I think a critical part of the far left is that ideas can only be expressed in dense, convoluted text.

If you're afraid of this, you've missed the boat on why work exists. The reason we have work in society is because we have tasks  that need to be completed or we will all die without it. If there is no work that needs to be done, it isn't a travesty but a success.

This should be required reading for anyone posting in the trends board.

I don't think it's a particularly good idea to just ditch the social stuff. It's silly just to abandon your base to grab whatever floaters you can find - advice to "be fiscally conservative, but socially liberal" is pretty much feel-good rubbish.

Instead they need to apply the social conservative tendency to a ethnically diverse and more urbane demographic.

Eliot County, KY.  Poor, depressing, nothing to do and hasn't voted for one Republican nominee from Fremont to Romney!
Funny how that works.  I thought all the racist Democrats joined the GOP. Wink

Duh!  And the only reason was the CRA, it just (for some reason) took those Southern Whites several decades to catch on!

I like that you glossed over the massive drop off in Democratic support once Obama was on the ballot. Wink

Okay, so they're racist DEMOCRATS, haha.  Not sure that's a preferable narrative for you, but whatever.  And the county voted for Obama twice, it clearly isn't some "DINO" haven.

Could Ted Cruz he be Hillary's running-mate in 2016?  He's proven he can win statewide in Texas and can appeal to white Southerners who have been drifting away from the party in recent decades.  Being of Cuban descent, he'll surely help her in Florida too.  Plus he's a Republican which means he'd give Hillary strong bipartisan street cred with independents.  Picking Cruz would also help Hillary distance herself from President Obama.  Thoughts?

Absurd humor doesn't  belong here, only involuntary absurdity.

Pushing liberal propaganda and resorting to personal attacks when anyone disagrees.
If he'd just left off the word liberal, that post could have gone in the Simple Truths mine.

Reagan actually changed the direction the country was headed.
Clinton licked his finger and stuck it up in the air to decide his current views.
