Frequently, they're not murderers... often they're political dissidents.

Not in the US, they aren't.

There is a significant number of innocent people in US jails.

Better get rid of jails then?

If someone is mistakely jailed, we can free him. If someone was mistakely executed, we can't revive him.

If you're afraid of this, you've missed the boat on why work exists. The reason we have work in society is because we have tasks  that need to be completed or we will all die without it. If there is no work that needs to be done, it isn't a travesty but a success.
