I've had some changes of heart here, so I have no reason to talk, but nevertheless.

Affirmative action is wrong.  Schools and employers should take the best person for the job.  period.  Giving a minority a job over a white person based on skin color is just racism the other way around.

I was such a horrible when I was a teen.

more tax cuts, bigger defense/intelligence budgets.

How does that add up if you cut taxes even further there won’t be dime to fund defence you'll be writing checks your ass can’t cash! If the Republicans did something like that they'd basically destroy social security as we (including Bill here) knew it... nobody will vote for a party that’s basically says...

"oh you want to be cared for when you get old?"

"yes that would be swell! worked for my dad and my granddad"

"oh well sorry about this but we could give you that or a tax cut and we'd like to give you a tax cut and while we're at it we'll spend any money we are lucky enough to get and some that well we don’t really have (he he) on massive defence programs against a myriad of foes who are coming to destroy the United States"

"But we spend three time what any other nation does on its military"

"Your point"

Sorry but your sums don’t add up and your recommendations are a recipe for disaster...

The defense budget is too small, and the entitlements are too big - actually I'd rather they didn't exsist.  But if you ask the productive members of society (aka the Rich) whether they'd rather have a balanced budget or a tax cut, I think they'd take the later.  I know I would.  The sums don't have to add up, and the deficit is no big deal.

I refuse to read the Communist Manifesto. I am easily impressionable and I do not want to pick up anything that'd change me radically.

Economic Issues:

I am a Laissez-faire Capitalist and I believe the Government should not interfere at ALL with the economy. If a large corporation is failing, it is not the Government's job to keep them afloat. I support lower taxes on ALL income brackets and I also support deregulation of all corporations. While I believe most corporate CEOs are inherently evil, I believe that business is not inherently evil.

Social Issues (Domestic)Sad

I supporter tighter boarders and the promotion of legal immigration.

Shouldn't we include John Kerry's name in here as well?  His "flip-flops" were worse than Romney's.  Romney simply changed his positions over time, something that nearly everybody does.  John Kerry repeatedly changed his positions based on his audience.

Uh, Romney did that too. When I was listening to the first general election debate, it felt like half of his positions were brand-new.

Seriously now, if you are afraid to read something for fear of changing your mind, your political beliefs (whatever they are) are utterly worthless. More than having moved away from libertarianism, I hope you have moved away from this mentality, Jake.

More wisdom from teenage HockeyDude

I am -6.22

I am for full marriage to gays, abortion in the 1st and 2nd trimester, gun control with testing, complete seperation of church and state, taking God out of the Pledge and off currency, and lowing the voting age to 16

I have a few conserative social stances. I'm all for the death penalty, against partial birth abortion, and strongly opposed to affirmative action.

Not so much partial-birth abortion, but the other two.

I have absolutely moved away from that. It mostly happened when I was required to read both the Communist Manifesto as well as multiple works by Adam Smith in school.

Well, since you are into taking in more works that could challenge your beliefs (which is a good thing), might I suggest some of Ayn Rand's novels? I am not a Rand fan myself at all, but they might be a good starting point before trying to tackle things from Smith or Hayek.

I'd rather eat bees than read an Ayn Rand novel. They are just awful.

Amazed that someone can be so condescending whilst at the same time recommending Ayn Rand novels.

I was just trying to recommend some good reading and thought it might be best to give those a shot first before getting into the other stuff, not trying to be condescending. I am not a fan of her at all, but it can be a good starting point.

I've read Atlas Shrugged three times (vomits) and her essential essays or whatever twice. She's boring and gratuitous.

That's not flip floppery, that's plain hypocrisy.
