Reading back through these, it's really interesting how vastly different the earlier seasons are from the ones now and how much darker the aura surrounding the main character is today.
When we first meet Bushie, he is a likable guy with a stable job just looking for love, which is in stark contract to the current Bushie. I am reading back now to remember the better times.
I think the Breaking Bad comparison is actually quite apt.
I think so too. I didn't at the time I made it, but now it's pretty clear that Bushie has transformed himself from a guy with good intentions (Walter White began by cooking meth to support his family when he died) to a monster who selfishly keeps a puppy outdoors in 100 degree heat so he can look at it once or twice a day, uses orphan kids to fulfill his fatherhood fantasies despite knowing there is no possibility to adopt them, stealing money from his parents for porn, needless hotel adventures, shamelessly avoiding employment and lying to the bank about his hardships to get a short sale to go through (did that ever even happen or was the whole story a lie?), and purposely disregarding any form of diet while lying about his weight loss in the process.
Not only that, but many of the viewers of The Update have gone from sympathizing with Bushie to downright disliking the guy for all that he stands for: the worst elements of the hypocritical hardcore Christian that, metaphorically, judges others for being unfaithful while he is the one having an affair with the office secretary. The writers have done a fascinating job portraying this type of person through Bushie.
