In the state where you were born, and at the time when you were born, who was Governor of that state, and who were its two Senators?

I was born in Iowa in 1987.  Terry Brandstad was Governor, and Iowa was represented by Charles Grassley and Tom Harkin in the US Senate.  Yes, exactly the same people as today.

Governor - Bill Clements (Republican)

Senator Class One - Lloyd Bentsen (Democratic)
Senator Class Two - Phil Gramm (Republican)

So yeah, first Republican Governor since Reconstruction (second non-consecutive term though) and two Senators who had experience running for president (though in the primaries and pretty unsuccessful).  One of whom would later be nominated for the VP spot on the Democratic ticket in the same year.

Fascinating.

Senators - David Boren, Don Nickles

The one term Governor later became a failed Senate candidate against Jim Inhofe, The Borens, of course, are the Political Dynasty family of Oklahoma, and Nickles was a long time Senator until replaced in 04 by Tom Coburn.

Fordice was the fist Republican governor since Reconstruction.  Cochran was the first GOP Senator since Reconstruction, and Lott was the second.
