Tonight is the big game FC Basel vs. Red Bull Salzburg in the Europa League.

Based on the latest trend in the Swiss and Austrian leagues and EL games, Salzburg has a good chance to win.

That was a tough one, so it ends 0-0.

But Salzburg is in brutal shape at home in front of a sold-out arena, so I think they might win this in 1 week.

Valencia wins 3-0 in Rasgrad, so is basically through to the next round.

Porto beats Phil's Napoli 1-0 at home, so everything's still possible for both.

In all honesty, I expected a loss. It could have been worse. I like our chances at home.

The chances of getting the Final many people are hoping for (Napoli vs. Juve at Juventus Stadium) took a hit today as Fiorentina tied late in Turin. I do think Juve will end up winning at Fiorentina though even if that ground will bring back plenty of bad memories.

Man United getting crushed will never not be hilarious. Let's hope they reward Moyesey with a ten-year contract.

Those March 20th matches are for Europa League, my friend. And in Serie A, Udinese are in 14th, not 10th.

Real Madrid and Chelsea in the next round with not much trouble ...

Dortmund (which plays St. Petersburg today) is basically through as well.

Maybe ManU can turn things around against Olympiakos ?

And tomorrow the game to watch is Salzburg vs. Basel (sold out arena in Salzburg).

My prediction: Salzburg wins 3-1

This isn't strictly about club football, but it is sort of relevant (and very funny) so I thought I'd post it: The rules of playground football.

Napoli dominate the first half, up 1-0 (tied on aggregate) then totally collapse in the second half. Should have known it would end this way. This is Napoli and the Europa League, you see.

And it's Porto. Goals out of nothing sometimes in the second half. Frankfurt learned about it already.

RB Salzburg in uninspired power-save modus lost 1:2 to Basel, who were down to ten players already early in the match. Disastrous defending, and obvious problems in making the game. Now I am curious about Tender's prediction who will win the EL...

We need Mourinho to lose in Madrid so it's acceptable that Chelsea beat PSG.

I must say, I really can't find it in me to root for any of the remaining teams. Any small redeeming qualities they may have are easily cancelled out by massive negatives. Oh well.

What's your problem with Borussia Dortmund, Phil? Founded by Polish immigrants (Borussia=Prussia), and still true to that eastern legacy. Great fans, great coach, nothing of the Bayern / Chelsea arrogance, rather building than buying stars, and they can play a beautiful football. Though I see your "Mourinho loses in Madrid" point, and I also think this time it will be more difficult for Dormund to overcoame Real than last year.

Dortmund is probably the remaining team I dislike the least and it's true that I don't generally dislike them (I wanted them in last year's Final) but it's still a German team and I don't want any more German hype before the World Cup. Plus, the whole beating Napoli thing. Tongue

Gun to my head, I guess I'd "root" for them from here on out but I don't think it's worth it. I think Real Madrid will win it all.

Very little is more cringe worthy than Americans discussing football.

BTW this Chelsea v Arsenal match is the funnest game I've seen in years.

Please don't lump me in with most Americans when it comes to discussing this game.

Horrible play by Salzburg. Maybe not their day, even if it looked like that after 10 minutes when Basel got decimated to 10 players, Salzburg scored the 1-0 and then the Basel fans started to riot, which caused the referee to interrupt the game for 15 minutes.

The referees even thought briefly if they should end the game after the Basel fans started to throw things down to the corner where Salzburg had their corner kick ...

This would have meant that Salzburg advanced to the next round by 1-0 on aggregate ...

But the referee decided that the game must go on (which was of course correct).

But then Salzburg played like sh*t I've not seen from them in the past year or so and Basel scored 2 times.

Well, stuff like this happens in football.

You are interested to know who I think will win the EL now ?

Hmm, maybe Porto or Juve ?
