Anyone that is interested in getting involved with Labor Party politics should contact me on becoming a Regional Co-Ordinator. It is a great way to get into party politics and a stepping stone to leadership! Smiley

I'm pretty sure I'm that fourth regular Progressive cacus board member for Labour.

Also, you should give the Southern coordinator job to Griffin, he basically built the party branch down here. That is, if he wants it of course.

I'd be happy to accept the responsibility if the Chair sees it fit.

Comrades, I have a few things I'd like to bring before the party, with party modernization and professionalization in mind.

First and foremost, I make a motion that the Labor Party join both the Progressive Alliance and the Socialist International. These international alliances of working people's parties will be no doubt important to the furtherance of a democratic society not only in Atlasia, but on all corners of the globe. I make a request that the Labor Party send delegates to the meetings of both these organizations at the time of their next meetings.

Second, I wish to make a motion establishing a youth league for the Labor Party. Perhaps we shall call it the Young People's Labor League? I'm open to ideas on the name, but I find it would be appropriate and a way to open up more leadership positions to those new players in the game who want to be involved in party affairs.

Third, I wish to make a motion calling on the Labor Party to adopt an animal 'mascot' not unlike those of the ancient Democratic and Republican parties from the earliest days of Atlasia. I would recommend a beaver, the hardest of all the workers of the animal kingdom, as our official animal mascot.

Fourth, I wish to make a motion establishing an official headquarters for the Labor Party. I'm open to suggestions as to where this headquarters should be, but owing to it's historic position in the labor movement, I would argue in favor of Chicago, Illinois, or perhaps Detroit, Michigan.

Finally, I want to make a motion to enter into an electoral alliance with the Canadian New Democratic Party. As the Atlasia-Canada Common Market agreement erases our Northern border and allows limited jurisdictional authority, it only makes sense that two socialist parties join hands under a single umbrella, as a united Labor Party of Atlasia and Canada.

What say you, comrades?

I second the motions to join the Progressive Alliance and Socialist International, as well as establishing a youth league within our party, for the reasons TNF has outlined above. I will also support the potential union with the New Democratic Party, although that is a proposal which will have to be approved by that respective party as well.

However, I do insist that this party adopt the common pig as our mascot. This animal has served humanity for tens of thousands of years, and has been wrongly maligned by those who see it as a symbol of filth; a similarity to the way many elitists view the working class.

(This is also a way to honor Bacon King for his service to the party.)

Our mascot should be an ant. Or a majestic gazelle.

Labor isn't some generic leftist party. Its a hard left party with hard left ideals. I'm afraid your type don't really fit in anywhere right now, although the Federalists are always looking for more diversity in opinion Smiley

Even if I don't always agree with it, Labor has, so far, prided itself in sticking to being a big tent.. for socialists of all stripes. But that is what we have always stuck to. I hope that is what we always try to stick to. We shouldn't appeal to everyone. We are who we are.

I tend to agree with this. Labor is a broad coalition of socialists, social democrats, social liberals, and the like, but there are some key tenets we hold onto, and that means we won't suddenly transform our platform to accommodate everyone. I am probably at the very right of this party, but I'm sufficiently of the Left to feel comfortable as a Laborite.

I don't mind socialistic ideas, I just never had a "all or nothing" approach to policy making.
