I would celebrate, but whoever replaces her would be just as bad.

Should have given her interior instead of DHS.

Every time I read Grumps' posts, I think of this:

62-Year-Old With Gun Only One Standing Between Nation And Full-Scale Government Takeover

NORFOLK, VA—According to numerous reports, local 62-year-old Earl Bailey, who owns a shotgun and several boxes of ammunition, is currently the last bastion of defense between the United States of America and the federal government’s plot of a full-scale takeover.

Bailey, a recent retiree and a proud advocate of gun rights, has been confirmed by multiple sources as being a true patriot, and is, at present, the only person capable of preventing top-secret forces within the government from striking and forcefully coercing hundreds of millions of Americans to submit to a fascist and brutal New World Order.

..

Anyway, I thank Secretary Napolitano for her service and wish her well at UC. I think she did a good job.

There are rumors that Obama will pick Tom Carper for her replacement. It kind of makes sense.

-Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee
-Likely to pass through Senate without major opposition
-Opens up a free Senate seat for Beau Biden
-Opens up a Environment Committee spot for Markey
-No one really likes Carper anyway, which makes him perfect for DHS

That's such a sexist line of critique.  Whenever a woman is in charge of a masculine-coded organization, people attack her for being too aggressive and somehow illegitimate because she is too masculine.

Yes, the Janets are somewhat androgynous and unattractive.  That is of no moment to running a federal agency, in fact it's probably a plus in some ways.  You need to be aware that it's unfair to judge them differently than a man in the same job.

I didn't mean their looks, bedstud, I meant their dictatorial way of running their departments.  I also can't stand Pistole, the head of the TSA.......he's not even a reasonable being.

Other proposed candidates are:

-Lisa Monaco (Pretty obvious)
-Michele Flournoy (Again, obvious choice)
-Susan Collins (Serves on HS Committee, Independent enough to take the job without caring about party loyalty, gives Dems chance at Senate seat.
-Jane Harman (Uggggggggh)
-John McCain (Chuck Todd, who is a barely functioning idiot, suggested this)

What specially about Janet Napolitano's leadership at DHS is dictatorial?

And my point is not so much about their looks.  It's about seeing a woman using masculine-coded power as a negative trait.  I'm not saying you're being a sexist, but you sounded sexist (especially using the phrase "on steroids" to describe a woman.  If you're going to say Janet Napolitano is a jackbooted Nazi, you need check yourself to see if you're being fair.

I'm confused by this as well. Her tenure seems to have been relatively uneventful.

Probably just the author of this thread spouting off meaningless libertarian platitudes with nothing to back them up.

Confused by the Napolitano vitriol in here. I'm guessing it's irrational.

Didn't particularly care for her tenure, but it was generally uneventful and is a tough cabinet to earn brownie points in...

The TSA is one of the worst agencies in the government.....the workers are poorly trained, their rules are childish and they waste money galore.....

Ask anyone who works on the Border Patrol and Customs how they like Queen Janet and what those agencies have had to endure.

She hasn't messed up FEMA - they're actually better now than they have been in a long time, but that agency chief reports more to the President than anyone.

Collins just issued a press release praising Napolitano

Considering how other Republican Senators greeted the news with hostility and "Good riddance", I hope Collins is posturing herself to be her replacement.

She is supposedly taking over as President of the UC system. I was just arguing about this on the Berkeley admits page....people are often too quick to crucify people based on website comments.
