The results of this poll will be used in a study being undertaken by the Ronald Reagan Center for Ronald Reagan Namesake Studies.

I'm fine with it if the alternative is Barry Goldwater. Tongue

I don't know of any place besides the airport in DC that is named after him, though the town south of me has a "George Bush Blvd" that is key to crossing the intracoastal.

At least he's dead Jim.  It doesn't irk me when they name things after dead politicians.  It's when they name them after those still living, even if they've retired from politics, that I get irked.

I'm generally opposed to naming too many things after Reagan. The one that particularly bothers me is naming Washington National Airport for Reagan. If you want to rename an airport after Reagan, it most certainly should not be in Washington, DC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_honors_named_for_Ronald_Reagan

There is a periodic effort every few years by conservatives in Harris County to name US Highway 290 after Ronald Reagan. A local state representative unsuccessfully led the charge earlier this year. I'm just not sure why we need to name a highway after someone who isn't from Texas, never lived in Texas, and had no impact on Texas that was significantly greater than anywhere else by virtue of being a two-term president. If we must have a highway in the Greater Houston area named after a dead president, why not...Eisenhower? Lyndon Johnson? George H. W. Bush?

George H.W. Bush isn't dead yet...

In my opinion, I'm down with naming more things after The Great Communicator!

So... Out of those eight years the only thing you've derived from them is the nick-name for a project that never really launched (literally and figuratively)? Not, say, certain other things that might've happened, for better or ill?

Nothing wrong with it. I believe Carter already has a road named after him in Gwinnett county, and he's still living.

Me too especially the paintings and statues of congressmen on capitol hill. It's like we're becoming ancient Rome.

FDR only tangentially influenced both of those events.
Disregarding the obviously limited sample size, Star Wars was a beneficial, if futile, program. In addition to irrationally scaring the Soviets, which is always a beneficial exercise, it provided good jobs to many in the engineering fields.
Quite.

It's a tad different.

Cold war, hostages coming home, a forceful foreign policy without having to go to war. Most presidents have things named after them and the more significant presidents, the more things are named after them. I sense a lot of partisanship too when people are debating who to name things after.

meh, the list is filled with schools and roads that the locals generally are ok with.  Why should it matter to people that don't live around them?  I noticed there is a lot of things in Poland with his name on them, that's kind of cool.

I'm opposed to naming anything after anyone who hasn't been dead for at least half a century.

That rules out every president since Hoover other than FDR.

Option 2.  I'm not sure we need anymore, but he deserves at least something.
