NJ on the Dem primary. My guess is that Walsh wins the primary in the end, but not without at least some messiness.

As usual, Schweitzer is looking out for the welfare of the party:

Schweitzer has a high opinion of himself, doesn't he?

glad Bohlinger got in and stuck it to the Dem establishment, they need to stop forcing candidates upon primary electorates without choice, I sort of hope he wins and proves them all wrong, and I'm glad he is willing to make bold statements, who cares if he is 77 anyway.

This reminds me of another Georgian:

The irony is that it is the exact same model by which the same people claimed that Romney had tank his own favorables to knock out Gingrich and Santorum, which is why Gingrich is now making this case.

In all the complaining about the tea party, it is being forgotten that the GOP establishment is just as incompetant at picking candidates.

Baucus will be nominated as Ambassador to China. Guess Bullock appoints a Dem replacement.

John Walsh will be appointed as his replacement and run for the full term as an incumbent, per WaPo's Paul Kane. It couldn't have anything to do with giving him a primary advantage.

Could this affect the general now that Walsh will have a year's worth of seniority over Daines?

Presumably because of his role in getting HCR passed in the Senate.

Also gives Baucus a way to speed up his cooling off time so he can return to K Street in 3 years, as Mark Leibovich hinted on Twitter.

Hope Schweitzer reconsiders, Bullock and Dems should do everything they can to have him as the replacement.

I am guessing that Gov. Steve Bullock will appoint John Walsh to the seat.

Can Bullock appoint himself to the seat? Aside from Schweitzer, he's the most popular official in the entire state of Montana.

It'd certainly up his name recognition.

I'm sure a lot of that would be quickly wiped away if he abandoned his post as Governor less than a year after swearing in.

Walsh gets endorsed by the teachers' union, which is also the state's largest union.

He has also spoken out on the NSA. Pretty good piece on Politico about that.

Excellent; I've always liked the Western Dems (except the Californian Senators) for their civil libertarian views.

Yeah, but any NSA critic would probably become a supporter immediately upon becoming president. Whether that's due to coercion or because then "they truly see how it saves us from turrists first hand" is anyone's guess!
