Breaking on Twitter. She's running for reelection as AG. So Quinn v. Daley it is.

She said her father's pledge to continue as Speaker was why.

No surprise, considering Daley would never declare if she was in. Hoping she goes for Kirk's seat.

Apparently she has little interest in federal politics.

I find it hard to believe that no other Illinois Democrat will run against two such flawed candidates.

I really hope Dan Rutherford (or whoever wins the GOP nom) takes advantage of these dire circumstances for Illinois Democrats.

That was before Bill Daley got in. You're a bit late on the rubbing it in part.

Madigan would have been great gov. She will never have a good of a chance like Schweizer, to step into spotlight.

I hope some other Illinois Democrat steps up and wins against Daley and Quinn. Those two are worse than generic D, electorally as well as politically/morally.

I don't like any of the Illinois Dems right now. Madigan was screwed by her dad. Given how the Dems have governed, if this election goes to the GOP next year I won't be upset at all.

I supported Bill Brady back in 2010, and he's running again in 2014, and I'd like to support him again, but I see it being difficult for him this time around.

Illinois needs a Republican Governor. Total control of government is never good, Dem or Repub.

It's not like the Illinois Republicans haven't controlled their government in the recent past.  Didn't they have Republican governors for like 30 years straight at one point?

So would you say Utah's Republican domination is bad?

Not surprising now, as Mike Madigan is exclusively why. Wasn't there a poll that came out a while ago that suggested that Lisa would perform significantly better in a Senate contest rather than governor because voters would perceive a conflict of interest with the latter?

Underestimate Pat Quinn at your own peril.  He's been political toast more times than one can shake a stick at, but still manages to squeak out ahead.  The guy has more political lives than a cat.
Also, never underestimate the ability of the Illinois GOP to get the 'circular firing squad' going and pull a loss out of a sure victory.

Perhaps the thrid time will be the charm for Rich Whitney (G) :->

No one is underestimating Quinn but he doesn't galvanize voters or assemblymen in a way an executor should. He is there just to legislate. However, Hynes or a Madigan win would have helped vulnerable Dems like Schneider in tough races.

Now that Madigan is out (seeking 4th term as IL State AG), I think that Daley maybe the favorite here for the Democratic nomination.

I can't see Hynes running (considering he struck out his last 2 statewide bids: US Senator in 2004 and Governor in 2010, despite winning 3 terms as State Comptroller).

On the GOP side, it's anyone's guess who will get the nod.

whoever wins the democrat primary  Daley or Quinn will be the Governor. the Gop here in Iliinois is very weak and almost non existant outside of some congressional seats but the Gop here is a laughing stock.
