Candidates began to file shortly after the 2006 Midterms.  George W. Bush's approval ratings are ccurrently 32/52 and Congress is at 39/46.

Midterms in 2006 went the same as in real life.

It looks like a McCain landslide. Poor Jeb Bush. I could only imagine how poorly a Bush would've done in 2008.

I'm throwing my support to Thune, even though I support Bush a lot, if Dubya didn't flip-flop like he did, I'd support Jeb... (oh, and if Jebby, Jeb's son, becomes Senator or something IRL in 2018 or 2022, I'd definitely support him in 2024 or 2028_

August 14, 2007 GOP debate in Ames Iowa

McCain ( asked about his age): If age were an issue we never would have elected Patriots like Ronald Reagan.

Coburn: (asked about which Democrat he would pick as his vice-president) Senator Casey in Pennsylvania would be my pick because like me he is pro-life, and that is something we need to preserve in this in country!

Gingrich :(On the Contract with America) It's a shame later republicans,  the Delays of the world got away from a well crafted set of values such as that contract.

Branstad (on why Iowa should be first state in the nominating process) Because we have loyal Caucus goers who come out every four years and expect to be first.

Bush (Responding to nepotism charges from other candidates) You have to be elected President. If the voters don't like you that's it, your'e done regardless of whether you have had relations in office.

Thune (On whether he regrets not running for Governor in 2002) No poltictian normally regrets races they don't run, and in any event Governor Rounds has been an excellent Governor for the people of South Dakota.

CNN poll on debate

Tom Coburn 32%
Jeb Bush 18.3%
Terry Branstad 18%
John McCain 16%
Newt Gingrich 9%
John Thune 4.7%

August 17, 2008 Democrats debate in Las Vegas

Bayh (On The Vince Foster scandal) I have no doubt Hillary Clinton ordered the destruction of evidence, and even Foster's suicide! This just proves that are two sets of rules-one for like Bush and Hillary Clinton and one for everyone else!

Landrieu ( responding a Mitt Romney op-ed in the Boston Globe saying FEMA "wastes money") Does Mr. Romney, and the GOP field expect people in MiamI, Houston or New Orleans to just die whenever a tropical system comes?

Spitzer (on whether he believes the government should investigate the claims of 9/11 truthers) No, we cannot give them more credibility by investigatng something that was seen by multiple eyewitnesses and on National TV.

Gore ( on something he regretted from 2000) Not constesting New Hampshire is the big one but there are quite a few...

Obama (on a possible relationship with North Korea) I'd have a  meeting, see where we stand, but after that all bets are off.

Clinton (Responding to Bayh's attack) Don't you think if Bill or I were behind such a heinous crime, wouldn't it have come out in the last 15 years?

Biden (On relations with Pakistan) We gave them a very good chance, and now it's time to throw them to wolves. They should have been in the Axis of Evil, not Iraq.

MSNBC debate poll

Al Gore 20%
Barack Obama 17%
Eliot Spitzer 15%
Mary Landrieu 14%
Joe Biden 14%
Evan Bayh 13%
Hillary Clinton 12%

Spetember 2, 2007 Democrats debate At Fenway Park

Clinton( on whether she is a stronger General Election candidate than Landrieu) I am becuase I have the experience to back up the policies I will fight for as for as President.

Landrieu(In response to Clinton's answer) I am a stronger Candidate because I don't have the Hillary Clinton baggage or the inexperience of Barack Obama. I am stronger because I can and will compromise when appropriate unlike the other partisian candidates.

Biden ( On steroids in professional sports) The fact of the matter is that most sports leagues have done nothing, so the government has no choice but to enforce existing anti-steroids laws and consider beefing them up.

Eliot Spitzer ( On a August 27 article in the New York Times calling for Lt. Governor Paterson's resignation for misuse of state funds as a state senator) I regret selecting Governor Paterson as Lt. Governor now, but no-one has 20/20 hindsight. We can't all do perfect background checks.

Gore (On an article on Drudge Report advocating banning all non-fossil fuels) It's not going to pass Congress and in any case it's climate suicide!

Bayh (On a Gore attack ad attacking him for being pro-life) I thought the other guys were the ones with the litmus test!

Obama ( On the SETI program) since they haven't found anything we're going to have to defund it.

January , 2008

Macon Georgia.

Newt Gingrich departed the presidential race at a rally here in Macon, claiming that "It's a shame we won't be able to compete in the Florida and South Carolina primaries," states he was leading in as late as New Year's Eve. He endorsed former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. Bush who currently is polling third in South Carolina, and is tied for the lead in Florida, had no comment.

January 11, 2008

Eliot Spitzer is out of the presidential race after not only fumbling an early New Hampshire lead, but finishing fourth among the five contenders. In a rally in Albany, New York, Spitzer offered his endorsement to Hillary Clinton and said he would campaign for her in Florida., where Clinton is currently in a tight Three-way race.
