Strongly oppose (D, and cat person). There are plenty of other options that don't mutilate the cat.

oppose

It's their main mean of self defense.  To take that away is cruel even apart from the pointless and painful surgery.

I'd only support if the cat is less than 6 months old and the cat never leaves the home.

Oppose (D).  I am especially critical of people who put their animals through unnecessary surgeries simply because "they look better that way."

I said support but wouldn't have it done. However, how is someone against declawing a cat but pro-abortion?

Strongly, strongly oppose (D, cat and dog person). Should be prohibited as a form of animal abuse.

Please explain? I don't see the connection.

Oh you know just that abortion seems to be a much worse thing to have done than declawing a cat.

That would depend on whether or not you consider a fetus to be a person, which I don't thnk it is until the point of viability. On the other hand, declawing a cat eliminates it's only form of defense for no good reason.

Nowadays they have plastic caps that your vet can glue on their claws that get changed every couple of months or so.

Declawing a cat is the anatomical equivalent of a human not only having their fingernails removed but also having the first bone of each finger removed. How would you like that?

I happen to be a cat and can vouch for how much it hurts. It would be the equivalent of a human having constant constipation for several hours and then when it all comes out, the obstruction causes rectal bleeding.

How would you get the cat's consent?

It's worse than constipation for several hours that results in rectal bleeding. At least it doesn't smell as bad.

Support in the sense that I don't really care what people do to their animals. We never had ours declawed, but then again we usually found our cats outside from a massive, decades-old feral cat community.

Can a human woman have her fetus' fingertips removed?  If no, why is that unacceptably violent but killing it isn't?  If yes, why wouldn't it be okay to do so after it had been born?

Nope, actually just logic logic, which evidently is at too high a level for you.  Fortunately, you're able to dispel others from drawing such a conclusion, given that, as we all know, posting links from TVTropes makes you Super Smart.

You're saying that it's unethical for a human to have their baby's fingertips cut off so we shouldn't do it to cats? I find killing a fetus to be unacceptably violent.
