Mixed. I see the logic in it if you have young kids but the caps are much more humane and easier.

Strongly, strongly oppose (D, cat and dog person). Should be prohibited as a form of animal abuse.

I said support but wouldn't have it done. However, how is someone against declawing a cat but pro-abortion?

Please explain? I don't see the connection.

Oh you know just that abortion seems to be a much worse thing to have done than declawing a cat.

That would depend on whether or not you consider a fetus to be a person, which I don't thnk it is until the point of viability. On the other hand, declawing a cat eliminates it's only form of defense for no good reason.

When does a cat become a person?

Nowadays they have plastic caps that your vet can glue on their claws that get changed every couple of months or so.

Declawing a cat is the anatomical equivalent of a human not only having their fingernails removed but also having the first bone of each finger removed. How would you like that?

I happen to be a cat ...

Never, obviously. However, while the life of a feline clearly isn't equal to the life of a human, I would still consider it more important than the life of a fetus that's only a few weeks old.

It's funny how you can be reading an intelligent debate one minute, then walk into a stupid one the next.

(Sorry for sounding cynical.)

At least they aren't as bad as cows. Cows produce more gas than any just about any creature. I'm sure you've all smelled the gas cows can produce. Sadly, humans are at the top with the technology we have harming our climate. Please see my environment and energy ideas in the political debate forums.

While we are on the issue of animal cruelty, what's everyone's opinions on spaying and neutering of pets?

Opposed to the practice, though I don't believe in using the force of the state to compel people to treat their animals with dignity.

Sure, why not? It's not like they gave consent to be spayed or neutered either.

If we don't spay or neuter our pets, then our animal population will be out of control leading to cats and dogs being put down at humane societies.

oppose.  I knew a girl once who did this to her cat.  Seemed weird to me.  Sadistic.

The main thing you want to do with cats is leave them alone.  If you don't feed them, they won't follow you home.  If you pull their claws out, then you sort of have a moral obligation to feed them.  Anyway, a de-clawed cat is about as useless a thing as I can imagine.  I definitely don't want any cats living in my house,  but If I did have need for a cat, like if I had a farm with a rat problem, I sure wouldn't want it to be without its claws.

Oppose (R).  It takes away their only means of defense.

Spaying and neutering pets is ok and helps to prevent animals from being put down due to an overpopulation of pets. I like animals as long as they don't pee everywhere.

I strongly oppose cat declawing and feel it should be outlawed. My parents had a Seal Point Himalayan cat that they found as a stray that was already declawed and he suffered greatly due to it.

Support in the sense that I don't really care what people do to their animals. We never had ours declawed, but then again we usually found our cats outside from a massive, decades-old feral cat community.

So you're happy if a person rapes their dog? I mean after all it is their animal...
