The way that Jedi was doing it, was to take the IPs of the voters and then check them from amongst a list of proxies on some site. That is the most I know about it though.

If amendments are not forthcoming on the matter of preserving the ban on on proxy/phone voting, I will have to open a vote here and very soon.

I would recommend using the alternative text I wrote in the GOR Committee thread as a basis to start from and then go from there to acheive the desired results. It should be accessible from the link in the OP.

Senator bore, did you get a satisfactory response to your question about how it is done?

I would recommend contacting a moderator for more details about the process if more is desired.

In fact if we could drag one in here to "help", should you desire to offer amendments on the subject, that would probably be advantageous.

Hello

I should first be completely honest and say that I'm not good at technology and don't really understand the in depth talk about IPs proxies etc. Having said that the process that you described seems filled with holes (eg what if it's an unknown proxy) very time consuming, probably avoidable and liable to abuse by the moderator. I wouldn't want our elections run like that. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't almost all our recent elections been conducted without a trawl through IPs?

What I'm concerned about- and the reason I don't want to just ban mobile votes- is the fact that mobile votes seem no less trustable than ordinary ones, if proxy's are in fact so difficult to discover.

Also I think we need to remember that even if the vote is cast by a sock, the puppeteer would still have to post with that sock regularly on different boards without being caught. Frankly I think this issue, at the moment anyway, is similar to voter fraud in the US in that it may exist, but it is small scale and it being suppressed would lead to bigger problems (like PJ mentioned about convenience, and sheer people being unaware of the law) than is worth it.

tldr I'm supporting this bill, and opposing any attempts to ban mobile voting, unless there really is widescale evidence of fraud.

Senators have 24 hours to object to cloture being waived and proceeding immediately to a final vote.

Gustaf has acknowledged to not having been enforcing this for quite some time. When exactly I don't know.

I think the IP checking is a more solid process then I let on, hence why I recommended getting expert opinions from a moderator.
