Question: If elected Emperor, would you endorse a Balanced Budget Amendment for the IDS Constitution?

Question: If elected Emperor, would you endorse a Balanced Budget Amendment for the IDS Constitution?

I oppose the idea in principle. Don't get me wrong- as governor my budgets will always be balanced. Fiscal responsibility is a requirement of any competent government. But it should be done because it's smart and sensible, not because there's a rule saying it has to be done. A constitutional amendment against bad policy ignores the true cause of the problem: legislators who support bad policy. Supporting a Balanced Budget Amendment means you don't trust the citizens of the region to elect capable representatives who can balance a budget, and I beg to differ with such an assumption.

You might say, "better safe than sorry," but honestly there's a fundamental philosophical disagreement here. By assuming the worst of our legislators' intentions and capabilities, you're actually limiting the reasonable policy options they have available. Isn't it smarter to run a deficit for a year or two during a recession and make the money back during better economic times than it is to force the region to raise taxes or cut important programs because tax revenues are down?

DID YOU KNOW?

Gubernatorial candidate Bacon King is currently before the Supreme Court of Atlasia, single-handedly defending the existence of the IDS Militia from an overzealous Federal government determined to abolish it?

Sorry for the five days without campaigning but my apartment's internet has been down and typing substantive posts on my cell phone is rather difficult

Whether or not they maintain a militia,

I trust you to play the Leia Organa to my Tarkin, and the people of the IDS should too. Endorsed!

Purple heart

I wish I could have campaigned more, but [Inks] happens, I suppose.

It happens; life is always more important than Atlasia. There's always a next time. Thanks for running and for everything you do for the region, like saving us in court.
