Betty (vis a vis General Mills) is donating cakes to the first three gay couples to get married when gay marriage becomes legal in MN on Thursday.  A giant cake will also be donated to the 60 couples who will be married overnight at City Hall in Minneapolis Thursday.

It's really not a big deal, but it's just one of those gestures that shows there's still a bit of good will among big corporations.

Betty Crocker has been a fictitious Minnesota icon since the 1920s and she still graces the boxes of cake mixes at grocery stores everywhere.  The company that owns the brand, General Mills, is based in Golden Valley, Minnesota.. a 1st ring suburb of Minneapolis.

I suppose they figure the archconservatives who will boycott them over this mainly cook from scratch anyway.  It's a nice gesture, but I can't help but think that this will lose them more sales than they will gain.

If you read the article, you'll find that General Mills has been very vocal about supporting LGBT rights for a long time.

And this pertains mostly to Minnesota... I seriously doubt they'll lose any sales over this.
